Vienna Concert Hall - October 15-16

Yeah, it was announced a few weeks ago.

It's a great choice for a guest, but I'm not sure I will be able to make it. I've had to make some drastic priorities this year in terms of film music events. I will not go to the US for any John Williams concert or film music event. I will not go to Prague (April) or Krakow (May). Since I already saw and interviewed JNH in Ghent a couple of years ago, I'm not sure I can prioritize this either.

The only thing I MUST attend this year is Ghent a couple of weeks after Vienna.

Wonder what the program will be like.
Dallas concert was good but some great tracks such as I am Legend (Evacuation), Flatliners and maybe a suite from the Fugitive would be just great.
We'll see.

If they play something from WATERWORLD, I will be totally envious. In fact, I would also have loved to hear SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS, WYATT EARP, FALLING DOWN, GRAND CANYON and pieces from SAINT OF FORT WASHINGTON, FLATLINERS, DINOSAUR. In short, my favourite JNHs.

In Ghent in 2012, however, they played these:

SIGNS
THE SIXTH SENSE
SNOW WHITE
GRAND CANYON (JNH conducted the fanfare himself)
DINOSAUR
HUNGER GAMES
TREASURE PLANET
ATLANTIS
THE DARK KNIGHT

Also a nice programme, even if several of my favourites were missing.

Here's a brief video I shot of the DINOSAUR performance:

What about a "JNH 80s Suite"?

Would have been terrific, with JNH on keyboards and the rest of the band on drums, guitar and bass.

Too bad prices are such a rip-off!

Otherwise I would have go despite not so positive experience from the last time.

I don't think ticket prices are that crazy. You can buy - if you are fast enough - tickets for around 40 EUR which is not that high considering the quality of the event and other concert prices around the world.

As for this year'a concert: it was an amazing, unforgettable event! They picked the best from Howard and the orchestra and choir really outdid themselves. I'm very glad I could be there. It was one of the best concert experiences of my life.

Howard himself seemed very touched when he received the award. A wonderful evening with wonderful performances.

Can anyone tell me who actually composed "The Hanging Tree" which was played at the reception at the US embassy where they did that interview? On the album it says "Written by Suzanne Collins, Jeremiah Caleb Fraites and Wesley Schultz" while the note paper at the reception clearly said "Composed by James Newton Howard".
Maybe the other 3 people just wrote the lyrics.

Yes, I believe that is correct. JNH composed the melody, the others wrote the lyrics.

Can someone post what was performed? It's like pulling teeth getting more than the most basic information from these events.

If one can trust wikipedia, then lyrics were written by Suzanne Collins and music by Jeremiah Fraites and Wesley Schultz.

I posted two pictures from the program book on my Facebook page. Here's what you missed, it was really a fantastic concert :
First half - Tales of Mystery:

Second half - Tribute to James Newton Howard

Yeah, I'd also would've loved something from "Dave" or "Grand Canyon". And the "medley" was a bit too short for "Dinosaur" and "Wyatt Earp".
However I re-discovered the breathtaking beauty of his score for THE VILLAGE...
Cheers,
Uwe

What a wonderful program!

I think the orchestral backing of "Hanging Tree" as well as the part from 2:23 onwards is JNH.

A shame they didn't play anything from WATERWORLD -- my favourite JNH. But still, looks like a smashing program. If I hadn't seen him live a couple of years ago in Ghent, I probably would have gone to this.

They played Richard Bellis' It? Damn, that's cool. If I hadn't seen JNH in Ghent I'd have been all over this concert, their Horner concert was out of this world.
