Angie and Lee made an odd couple, the latter quite lethal.

That Clu is 86 years old now, Bill. Always thought it would become A list after this one. Sadly not to be.

"Robert Siodmak and Ernest Hemingway would be spinning in their graves at the very idea of what "oh-so-modern" Siegel has done to their classic (which was admittedly rather unsavoury anway). Siegel is one of the "new breed" of directors who seems to be obsessed with violence, and so he rubs our faces in it to make us "sit up and take notice", I suppose. He will have his supporters among the younger crowd of hippies who will see it as a criticism of today's society - rather than seeing it as what it is: a celebration of sickening blood and guts, without a single redeeming feature. Ronald Reagan would be spinning in his grave at the very idea of this gore-fest, now that he has sensibly re-instated "family values" back into a formerly depraved USA since he became president."

(Leslie Holywater - "What Have They Done to Fillums?" - Daily Mail "What's on TV This Christmas?", December 24, 1978)

Never saw this movie.

Always meant to, but never got around to it.

Now, I suppose it would seem quite tame in comparison to the casual gore even on TV.

The Siegel remake is great. BTW, Criterion is reissuing it on a forthcoming blu-ray.
