Loved the nod to Marvel artist/editor Al Milgrom "Milgrom Hotel") in the film.

I did like that. I was hoping for a food truck called "Byrned Tacos."

Jim, didn't you feel punked because Cross only puts on the suit at the end, and we've no idea if he's really mastered it to the point he can take on Ant-Man, as with Rhodes in Iron Man 2?

The father-daughter thing is right out of Spider-Man 3, and Cross was Obadiah Stane, Jr.

Minus the "Quantum Realm" sequence, I thought the "bedroom battle" sucked.

That thought did occur to me as the final battle was happening, but I'm charitable enough to say that Cross was obsessed over the project and the suit enough to be able to control it--but yeah, it went through my mind at the time.

The father-daughter thing is right out of Spider-Man 3, and Cross was Obadiah Stane, Jr.

I'm less about plot variety--after all, I am a Woody Allen film devotee and he has obsessively revisited the same plots and concepts--and more about character motivation and interactions, so no, it didn't bother me. Plus remember that the father-daughter thing is a hugely important thing with Scott Lang in the comics and is his "Uncle Ben" motivation for being; no problem here. Besides, I never saw Spidey 3. smile

Minus the "Quantum Realm" sequence, I thought the "bedroom battle" sucked.

I liked it and may like it more upon subsequent viewings, but it was the least of the fights in the film.

Oh! And I was completely and pleasantly surprised by Falcon's appearance, as I hadn't seen all the TV spots. I like that they got his outfit coloring back to red and white, like it was in the comics. I realize his wings in TWS was the army one, but still...

...and speaking of The Falcon, was that Cap talking to him over his communicator?

I think so. The post-credits scene more or less confirmed it. And the way Scott put Falcon out of commission was awesome.

I hope the next movie is Ant-Man & Wasp, and they stay shrunk for at least a third of the movie. Maybe we'll even see "Journey to the Center of the Android" adapted.

Btw, Stan's cameo was hilarious.

Stan's best cameo for me remains TWS but it was funny when they just cut to him during the conversation recap finale at the end, which btw was a fun way to end the film, with Beck's theme sort of the punchline for it. In fact, I felt Beck's score was spot on for this movie with its tone. It's the first score other than maybe Tyler's IM3 that captures that Marvel spirit I associate with the comics, though I love Jackman's TWS score for different reasons.

The second end credits scene was great because Jackman's TWS motif comes back and I know that irritates the musically conservative "I Wish Everything Sounded Like Star Wars" rabble that inhabits this forum and which comprise most film score reviewers--present company excluded, naturally. wink

On a Marvel-related note, the FF trailer I saw at Ant-Man was much better than the first one I saw (just as Ant-Man second trailer was superior to the first). They don't emphasize Mr. Fantastic's powers much, quickly cutting away whenever he does. Maybe they're ashamed of them? wink

The opening music over the Marvel title was funny in a good way. I think Stan's cameo (in the cab of the truck) in the first Thor is one of his best. The TWS cameo is up there, too.

The second end credits scene was great because Jackman's TWS motif comes back and I know that irritates the musically conservative "I Wish Everything Sounded Like Star Wars" rabble that inhabits this forum and which comprise most film score reviewers--present company excluded, naturally. wink

I didn't realize Jackman's score rubbed some people the wrong way. I like it.

That's the trailer that was released online. Yes, it's a better trailer, and Thing looks awesome even though he has no pants (get the number of Hulk's tailor). I'm not crazy about the cast (too young) but the powers look good. You only see Reed's power twice, but the close-up of his arm stretching out of the restraints looks a lot better than in the previous movies.

I'm just not sure about Doom's look. I read we have some other key FF nemeses in the movie, but I'm not sure if that's true. If they've elected to not reveal them in the trailer, that's a wise move.

Ok so an ant man?
A man who dresses as an ant?
Wait dont tell me, a man who was bitten by a mutant ant while visiting a laboratory?!
Or perhaps A man who had sex with with an ant, who can now shrivel to ant size when he wants to?

If i was a villain bent on world domination id just paint an inch of clear creosote around my house, then ant man couldnt cross it.
Or maybe go to a pet store and get some Stay-kil aerosol, its a flea killer but murders ants. Its about 3 grades down from mustard gas and you mustnt breathe it, but it fks up their antennae and makes em turn in circles.

Being a dr evil, i dont think id be two bothered if ant man was on my case - i think id just make sure i was wearing by big Doc martens boots that day - and just as he was saying Hold it right there, dr evi... Id just squish him.
Not much of a super hero??!!

I'm just not sure about Doom's look.

From the brief shot we got of him, it reminded me of what John Byrne did with Doom's armor circa FF #278 sans Doom's trademark green cowl.

Actually, you'd have a serious problem if he flew in on his winged ant steed (creosote and Raid don't affect him, he wears a fully body suit and helmet) and tossed one of his li'l Frisbees into your arsehole...the kind that either shrinks it to the size of a pinhead, or expands it to the size of a tractor.

That's still his traditional mask. The redesign reminds me of Ultron. I think what we think is his "mask" may actually be his face, but I could be wrong. He has no dialogue in the trailer.

Hey drop ! An arse-reducing frisbee? There are women who would pay a fortune to get ant-man riled enough!!

Did everyone catch Garrett Morris in the film....and realize his ANT-MAN connection?

I recognized him right away but I had completely forgotten he was in the SNL sketch, which I remember more for the Superman-Hulk meeting; I'd also forgotten that Aykroyd played The Flash embarrassment. I'm currently in the midst of season two of SNL but the super-hero party is in a later season:

I'll admit it's a pretty obscure reference, but I loved it.

What did you think of Ant-Man, Charles? Did you have visions of a "Land of the Giants" film in the future?

I absolutely loved ANT-MAN...smiled through the whole thing. "Tales to Astonish..."

Somehow it's easy to picture 1960s "Chaz" Thaxton ambling over to the Whitaker Street corner store for the latest ish of Tales to Astonish:

Also, I love the cue "Tales to Astonish" as it's a nice nod to the 1960s. I'm not sure a DC property would be caught dead with a retro-ized theme in their current films (but that's another topic of discussion and not a slight towards DC, either).

What if Stan Lee had created the DC universe? WTF? Is this for real?
