Great discussion and some great points from you and others on there. Sadly, it seems impossible to have a similar discussion on here without most of those people being blamed of being old fashioned. That's because most of the participants on that discussion are professional working musicians or filmmakers.

The star Trek analogy, Heath, is an astute attempt at humour but clearly demonstrates you're lack of understanding of how such an analogy should be properly used. Clearly, you seem to have some familiarity with the basic concept of humour, but the analogy used is improper for the context. For example staying in your analogy, you can analyze any post here, but languages for example have some different standard aspects other have not. Like the -ing ending words in english, we don't have them in german. So when you apply the system of german grammar to english texts, you 'll discover all those -ing words (beside other phenomena) and you 'll measure them as being wrong, or highly unusual. So I'm not sure about the alternate Kirk analogy. In any event ,irregardless, hopefully you realize the "Mike West" is not the persona you believe him to be. Nor was he ever. an astute attempt by all, but not quite right. I hope this clarifies.
