WTF? This came out of left field! Thanks for the information, man! Link, please? Incredibly annoying, as I'm leaving for Lisboa the day after, so there's no way I can fly Oslo-Stavanger-Oslo roundtrip for this without it costing too much. DAMN!!! This is the link, but Horners presence has not been announced yet. I got the info from someone working on the project. http://sso.no/program/hyllest-til-filmkomponist-horner Sorry you cannot come, Thor. Ah, I see. OK, I'll wait a bit untill I announce it at celluloidtunes.no (Twitter & Facebook). I have to comfort myself in the fact that I saw him live in Vienna a couple of years ago, and even got to conduct a breakfast interview with him. But really -- Horner & Norway! DAMN AGAIN!

It'll be interesting to see if Horner will actually step up to a podium for this concert. If he does, it'd be his first concert of this type and could lead to more. If not... it won't come as a total shock.

Well, I certainly wouldn't go so far as to say that Titanic and Braveheart are "shit", though I take your point about Krull's superior compositional quality and share your desire to hear it performed live in concert. That said, there are (at least) two reasons the first two were chosen and Krull was not: 1. They are from widely-recognized and beloved films, and the scores themselves share the high profile. Krull IS a "shit" film so its chances of getting performed live in concert are comparatively small, both because of the feelings of the planners/concert promoters and also probably because of how Horner himself feels...I wouldn't be surprised if his attitude towards performing Krull would be embarrassment, even though his composition is excellent. 2. Krull is FREAKING HARD to play! I mean, the LONDON SYMPHONY at the height of their powers had trouble keeping up with Horner's writing on the original soundtrack recording! (To be fair, perhaps they were short on recording time and could have nailed it with enough rehearsals.) I'm sure Titanic and Braveheart are much easier for an orchestra to tackle. Yavar

Yesterdays concert here in Stavanger was fantastic. Horner received three rounds of standing ovation. And he deserved it! The concert started of with his suite fra BRAVEHEART. This he conducted himself. Then the the Stavanger symphony orchestra perfomred his 30 min. concert work, Pas De Deux - that was pure Horner - calm and romantic and then explosive in the end. Act 2 started with a suite from ALIENS, and then Horner conducted a suite from the new film, WOLF TOTEM. This was followed by The Legends of The Fall, the theme called The Ludlows. The suite from Avatar followed (very, very good!) and then the grand finale with Horner conducting the Titanic Suite. After the concert he signed copies of his newly released (only in Norway) Pas de Deux CD, that was on sale in the lobby. A very special night! I am currently writing a book about the Bond films (to be released later this year in Norway), and while researching the music chapter I was informed that Horner was approached to score NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN. I sent him a note asking about this, and he kindly sent me a handwritten reply saying that he was not asked, believing John Barry was still involved and that he heard he was considered too young for the job. So now we know! He also kindly signed som CD covers (Clear and present Danger and Fivel Goes West (guilty pleasure!))

Morten, Thanks for the report. Did you bump into fellow FSM members Jostein and Kim, who were also there? I desperately wanted to be there myself, but as I said earlier, I'm travelling to Lisbon in a couple of hours, and the logistics simply didn't go up. By the way, I'm always amused by your screenname, because a friend/colleague of mine is Morten Steingrimsen, who is one of the biggest Bond fans in the country, and who runs jamesbondnorge.no. To have two Norwegian guys named Morten who are both hardcore Bond fans is a weird coincidence. But you, of course, are also heavy into film music, which he is not.
