Film composer Laurence Rosenthal will turn 89 in November. I'd like to make a birthday card, a big one, get his fans to sign it, and see if Intrada will forward it to him. (If they can't help, I might have another way or two to get it to him.)

What say you? I'll do a "distro" where I mail it to one person with a list of people who sign up and send me their mailing address. They mail it on to the next person on the list, and so on until everyone gets to sign it. It gets returned to me.

Then I get it to whomever will present it to him in time for his 89th birthday, November 4.

If nobody posts here that they are interest in participating (I'll ask for addresses later), I'll just chalk this up to another one of my ideas that went down a rabbit hole. smile

If we could include someone in Europe (ie. longer shipping time from the U.S. to here and back), I'd be definitely in! It even might be nice to add an international touch to the card so that Mr. Rosenthal could see for himself that his fans are scattered all over the world.

If more Europeans were interested, we could have been linked one after another so that the card would have to travel across the Atlantic only once here and once back.

I think it's a lovely idea, and I'd sign such a card!

Great idea, but the postal service isn't 100% reliable and it would be a shame if it were lost in transit somewhere along the way.

Here's a less risky alternative: What if everyone wrote out their birthday wishes on their own pieces of paper and mailed them to Berk so he could assemble them into a happy birthday scrapbook?

I'm in. I also like Josh's idea.
By the way, I am from Europe, too.

Distros happen all the time among old-time radio collectors. I've only seen it happen where people were more unreliable than the postal service. But I'll weigh the idea.

If I get at least 10 Yanks to sign up, I'll do this. If I get at least 3 Euros, I'll either do an isolated mailing or a separate card.

Thanks to everyone who's posted so far.

I'll call the new subtotal "10 North Americans" and get started talking to Intrada.

After a long and detailed RFP process, I'm happy to say that the first phase of the Rosenthal Birthday Card has been completed.

A distribution deal has been made with Intrada.

The design contract, though, has been awarded to IN/David/Berkeley, a firm owned by me. We'll also do the construction, advertising and opening night party catering.

Heads up, Lukasites and Kendalloids:

The design firm has completed the prototype of the card.

Watch this space this week for instructions on how to submit your greeting.
