Independence Day 2 is on track for a Summer 2016 release, directed by Roland Emmerich and featuring Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, and Brent Spiner from the original. Whether or not the film will be any good is one matter. More interesting to me is whether David Arnold will finally return to the major sci-fi blockbuster genre.

I know we have our differences on this board sometimes, but I think we can all agree Independence Day is unequivocally the greatest film score of all time. wink

My adrenaline is already pumping over the thought of another grand-scale science-fiction score from David Arnold, revisiting his themes from ID4.

Or maybe Emmerich will continue his relationship with Harald Kloser. razz

No but I'm always ready to agree that ID is unequivocally the greatest filmic guilty pleasure of all time!

even if he returns, it wont be anywhere as great as the first.his narnia score showed that he lost his ability to do something like that.and producers dont want such music today.

My interest in this begins and ends with Arnold's involvement, despite not really being a fan of his anymore.

Why not asking Mr Arnold directly ? He might (or not) be willing to answer to the question

I spoke to him on Tuesday this week and asked him about any involvement in ID4. He stated he " hadn't been aproached".

I have a signed CD of his ID4 score. Played it only once though, noisy orchestral music isn't really for me...

It probably won't be Arnold as it looks like their relationship ended after he was rejected for The Patriot.

The film is going to suck anyway. It is more about Emmerich promoting his homosexuality. Casting young good looking males, promoting in press how the film will have a gay character in it like no one has done it before.

Early drafts of the script show the gay aliens join forces with the good humans and defeat the evil conservative warmongering aliens.

Composer aside my mind is boggling over how you could have a sequel? The world was mostly destroyed. In 20 years it's rebuilt? Is this like war of the worlds TV series where nobody remembers original devastation? Or is this like the Simpsons cartoon where we keep rebuilding and they knock it down???

I've always thought a sequel to id4 and day after tomorrow would've interesting if examined world aftermath after disasters.

I don't know that anybody has ever confirmed how much score he wrote and recorded, but Arnold was attached to the project, and then replaced by Williams. This was well-known back in 2000.

Independence Day is my favorite score (and most obsessed over) from the 90's so the idea of Arnold going at ID4 again is pure idealized fantasy to me, since the filmmakers will likely go with the Media Ventures sound. I've accepted it and if the future does behold another David Arnold effort, it would be right up there with new Star Wars movie excitement for me. The movie can suck just like the first did, but his music is da bomb!
