I knew I'd get a respond from you, Ford.

I have no "Beef" with Richard, I'm frustrated that a once-excellent musical voice had to succumb to writing extremely mediocre music for even more mediocre films and that no one of "relevance" discovered him along the way and pulled him out of shitty b-movie land the way Horner, Young and a few others were spared such a fate - all in the name of keeping the lights on, the bread on the table and the wolves at bay.

Based on his title theme from SORORITY ROW, the gorgeous end title from MUTANT or the swirling, deeply evocative main theme from GHOST WARRIOR, I'd happily hire this man and give him a large orchestra in a second if I had the means to do so at this time - But I do not.

I kinda wish he had said "No" to some of these films, or that direct-to-video land wasn't an automatic career killer for composers in the way it is for directors, actors, etc. as well.

I mean...

We need THIS Richard Band back NOW.

Well make movie and hire him to do that sort score for it.

Also your talking about projects that were done over 25 to 30 years ago.

times change,tastes change and such.

As far as BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR is concerned, it's a very good effort from a composer who understand how to write this sort of score within the budget he had to work with.

As MV stated, it's vastly better IMHO then a number of full Orchestra scores I hear today.

Ford A. Thaxton

The score is actually far more than a simple solo synthesizer; Band creates some pretty good dimensionality in the music which has some engaging textural depth and a very nice mix of his ode-to-Herrmann RE-ANIMATOR main theme and plenty of Lovecratian tonality throughout. From the album notes:

"Without the organic, acoustic power of a live orchestra on hand, the score creates most of its power synthetically, through Band’s then-state-of-the-art phalanx of synthesizers and samplers. In the case of BRIDE, his primary electronic musical tools included the Synclavier and the Kurzweil 2500X, both polyphonic synthesizers with sampling systems that enabled them to replicate live instruments and natural sounds, along with a series of specifically-designed programs on multiple E-mu emulator IIIs. Band’s friend, composer/synthesist Christopher Stone, had created some unique, original sounds for the emulators, which were also utilized for BRIDE’s sonic pallet."

If it' s not your thing that's fine, but no need to diss Richard Band over his choice of projects. With what he had to work with (and he'd much rather have an orchestra, like most composers would) I feel he did an admirable job. It's a fun score, as much tongue in cheek as it is over-the-top shriek show.

Despite the lack of orchestra, it's a fun score and fits the tone of the movie. I have the Silva and I am upgrading.

Mine has arrived! Didn't get a shipping notice so I wasn't expecting it, so it's a nice surprise. Looking forward to checking it out.

EDIT: Really enjoying it. I just need to get around to buying Intrada's release of the original.
