THURSDAY, APRIL 23 SPIDER-MAN---five candidates to star in the Sony Pictures reboot movie are: Asa Butterfield (ENDER'S GAME), Timothee Chalamet (INTERSTELLAR), Tom Holland (LOCKE), Liam James (PSYCH) and Natt Wolf (THE FAULT IS IN OUR STARS). Also, Sony announced an animated Spider-Man movie is underway and will be directed by the team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller (THE LEGO MOVIE). THE EQUALIZER---sequel underway at Sony Pictures with Denzel Washington expected to return. BLACK MASS--photo released of Johnny Depp starring in the biomovie about Boston mobster Whitey Bulger. CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR---Elizabeth Olsen confirmed she's returning as Scarlet Witch in the sequel. JACK AND THE BEANSTALK---Walt Disney Pictures movie underway based on a concept by Vince Gilligan (BREAKING BAD). COUNTERPART---new Starz sci fi series starring JK Simmons (WHIPLASH, LAW & ORDER) as a UN employee who discovers his agency is hiding a parallel dimension where his counterpart exists. THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN---Wagner Moura (ELYSIUM) will play a gunslinger named Vasquez. The remake also stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke and Vincent D'Onofrio. BOB THE MUSICAL---Walt Disney Pictures musical comedy movie underway possibly starring Tom Cruise as a man who suffers a head injury which allows him to "hear the inner songs of everyone’s heart". DEEPWATER HORIZON---John Malkovich will play a BP executive in this movie about the 2010 BP oil rig disaster. Mark Wahlberg and Kurt Russell also star. SUICIDE SQUAD---Common has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. THE INVISIBLE MAN---a rumor claims Sony Pictures is developing a movie based on the HG Wells novel that "will make the Invisible Man the villain of the film, with the audience following the hero that is tasked to hunt him down." The Sony movie is not connected to Universal Picture's reboot of its 1933 movie. FIFTY SHADES DARKER---the FIFTY SHADES OF GREY sequel script will be written by Niall Leonard, husband of author EL James. THE MUPPETS---the ABC series is described as "The Muppets return to prime time with a contemporary, documentary-style show that - for the first time ever - will explore the Muppets' personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires; a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages."
