I was hoping that La Battaglia di Algeri might get expanded for this release. I saw the restored version of the film in cinema a couple of years ago, it's brilliant and there is quite a lot of music not on the GDM CD. But the masters are probably lost. It's a great score anyway and everyone unfamiliar with it should get it (and also check the film!).

I still recall my thrill on the first Morricone concert, which he opened with a classical piece not known to me; the second part of the concert was dedicated to his movie themes and the first one was La Battaglia di Algeri. It's the thrill of immediately recognizing the opening few percussion hits that stays with me ever since!

I don't think that there is a lot music missing !
For the GDM CD (2006), Claudio Fuiano and Daniel Winkler used all the material avalable, even the 2 other alternate versions of the end titles !
Perhaps there is, here and there in the film, some different mixes. I will find it out and check.

But Quartet announced in their website that they couldn't expand the soundtrack because the previous edition was complete ...

I didn't see an announcement either.

I only went to the Quartet website to check out something else I was reading about in another thread, and noticed they had a new Morricone release that I didn't have.

Woo-hoo!

I made a mistake, Quartet said that in its Facebook page :
"Stephen Woolston : How will this BATTLE OF ALGIERS differ from the previous GDM release?
Quartet records : Same content (don't exist more music available from this film!), but remastered sound, new artwork, 20-page booklet and liner notes by Tim Grieving. Also, the GDM release are out-of-print for almost ten years, so it's time to put this masterpiece again in the market."

So it isn't an announcement, but an information.
