looks pretty cool if you ask me, on their website

The 1980s were a fun, exciting time in pop culture... and especially at the movies! 1985 in particular was a cultural lynchpin for a whole generation. We traveled through time in Back to the Future, hunted for treasure with The Goonies and hung out with friends in St. Elmo’s Fire. Music was always part of the adventure; the film scores of Jerry Goldsmith, John Barry and Alan Silvestri, and hit songs by Oingo Boingo, Tina Turner and Brian Ferry instantly conjured up the characters we love from their movies.

Now 30 years later, VARESE LIVE ENTERTAINMENT, a new film music concerts division launched by Varese Sarabande Records is presenting BACK IN TIME…1985 THE CONCERT EXPERIENCE.

BACK IN TIME…1985 THE CONCERT EXPERIENCE Includes:

- (2) Premier tickets to BACK IN TIME…1985 Live @ the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center on June 11, 2015. This concert performance celebrates the biggest film scores and songs of 1985, under the direction of the world’s greatest film composers.

- (2) After party passes to meet and greet all the attending composers, including David Newman, Bruce Broughton, David Shire, Christopher Lennertz, Jeff Beal and many more!

- (2) Event posters as a keepsake and to collect composer autographs

- (1) BACK IN TIME... 1985 AT THE MOVIES 6-CD collection. This comprehensive musical time capsule from 1985 includes Academy Award-winning and nominated scores and songs, and a brand new recording featuring the great David Newman conducting the debut of the Varèse Sarabande Symphony Orchestra — a new all-star orchestra credited with recording the first orchestral album of classic film music in Los Angeles in decades!

The estimated value of each package is $350. Packages are very limited, so dedicated film music fans must act fast!

Tickets and after party passes for the concert will be left at will call under the name of the purchaser. Posters and the BACK IN TIME... 1985 AT THE MOVIES 6 CD Collection will be available for pickup at the after party. For any questions about BACK IN TIME...THE CONCERT EXPERIENCE, please contact us at Orders@varesesarabande.com

The earlier press announcement we were perusing from Google's cache had an estimate price for that 6-CD set. I wonder if the incredible amount of bitching that went on in the earlier thread on this release caused Varese to re-evaluate a wider release of this set. That, or the set isn't finalized yet and they'll put it up for sale when it's actually ready to ship.

Chris.

A compilation set.
Uh, no.

That amount gets me a whole lot of other cool titles from Intrada and LLL

I think Varese may have misjudged this one. A 6-CD set for $250 containing tracks and whole CDs many people already own doesn't seem like it's correctly read the pulse of the market.

Unless of course it's really about the concert tickets for you.

But, let's see how it goes. I wish them well of course.

Cheers

I think this 6 CD set must be the biggest disappointment in soundtrack collecting history.
I really do not know what they must be thinking. Anyway this one is not for me. MAYBE someone will want it.

Some of these complaints feel a bit like that old joke that Woody Allen cites in "Annie Hall": "The food here is terrible!" "Yes, and such small portions!" Except this time, it's "I don't want this CD, and why don't they offer it independent of the concert?!"

They are selling a concert/meet-and-greet/CD combo. Do I want it? No. If enough people want it, they'll make money. If not enough people do, they won't. End of story.

It's very nice of you to wish them well. I would rather see them return this label to its former greatness.

I'm sure there are lots of people on this board who are thinking "I just saved $249" plus postage!

Didn't the cached version say $250 was with the tickets....and the normal version would be $120?

Even at that price I'm not even going to even think of considering, despite how wonderful the concert CD sounds.

Also, "sequence not final" for the song CD? (not that I care...). How can they go live with a box set without even knowing what's actually on it!?
Especially given it's supposedly released today, not just a pre-order.

The best news in this announcement, for me anyway, is "the debut of the Varèse Sarabande Symphony Orchestra." Hopefully this endeavor is a success, and we can look forward to more recordings from them in the future.

This is a big dissapointment , I dont know what varese are trying to do here apart from trying to shift some of their previously released CDS .

At lease i have saved money

Also what is the use of the concert tickets etc if you live nowhere near the event ???

Varese has truly lived up to my expectations .

0/10

Correct, but I had to amend my first post to reflect actual cost as indicated on Varese's website.
Still, that extra $101 will buy more cd's.

Intrada, Kritzerland, Quartet, and LalaLand are where it's at for me these days. I'd all but forgotten about Varese.

Mr. Townson is more interested in putting together concerts so he can bring pretty dates and Varese continues to show how out of touch they are with the fanbase that built them.

Real end of story.
