GAD Records, polish label dedicated to good sounds from 60s., 70s & 80s proudly presents: W PUSTYNI I W PUSZCZY (In Desert and Wilderness) (1973) by Andrzej Korzynski http://gadrecords.pl/releases/korzynski-w-pustyni-i-w-puszczy LIMITED EDITION - 500 COPIES OUT: 11.05.2015 One of the all-time most popular Polish films. Everybody will remember the adventures of Stas and Nel, the abductions, getaways, playing with the elephant and… the music. Are you ready to go over to the Dark Continent with Andrzej Korzynski and his compositions from „In Desert and Wilderness” movie? Everything has already been written about Wladyslaw Slesicki’s film. Amazingly successful adaptation of the prose by Henryk Sienkiewicz remained for many years one of the largest and most courageous Polish film productions ever. The press would for several year feed the interest in the film, which translated into over thirty million viewers! There also appeared a EP with only two compositions from the original soundtrack, written by Andrzej Korzynski – versatile, well known composer (leghty filmography incl. titles by Andrzej Wajda, like “Man from Marble” and “Man from Iron” and many Andrzej Zulawski’s movies, incl. “Possession”). Now have a complete set – together with all variations on lead themes, Arabic motifs full of percussions and a whole range of charming, colourful compositions with an bold string section. Classic score in its proper form. At last. The whole material has been remastered from master tapes. The record includes a complete set of compositions by Andrzej Korzynski used in both parts of the cinema version of the movie. Plus booklet with stills from the movie and an elaborate essay from which you will learn about the history of this film, including lost US deal.

Wow! This news announcement is a surprise (and a very pleasant one, to me). Though unfamiliar with this film, I'm aware of a number of Polish composers who wrote for Polish language cinema 40+ years ago. Still, I never would have expected vintage master tapes from Polish studios to be receiving the restored & remastered treatment for soundtracks albums. Not to detract from the music by Korzynski, but with this CD release I can't help but wonder if many other master tapes from Polish films have continued to survive up to present day. Here's hoping for future film music albums with music by Jan Krenz, Andrzej Trzaskowski, Kazimierz Serocki, Adam Walacinski, Andrzej Markowski, Tadeusz Baird ... as well as other possible film music by composers already represented on disc such as Penderecki, Kilar, Komeda, etc. Dziekuja, GAD!

Not to detract from the music by Korzynski, but with this CD release I can't help but wonder if many other master tapes from Polish films have continued to survive up to present day. Unfortunately a lot of master tapes was destroyed in 80s, incl. many scores by Komeda, Trzaskowski or Kazanecki - but some of them are luckily safe. We started our polish soundtracks series last year with complete score from "Zapach psiej siersci", totally forgotten film, even in Poland. But Wlodzimierz Nahorny's score, with some jazz flavours, is great: http://gadrecords.pl/releases/wlodzimierz-nahorny-zapach-psiej-siersci We're not soundtrack-only label (we're also diggin' into polish library music, jazz, funk, rock and more...), but I'm pretty sure there will be more good scores in our series. I'll keep You posted!

I'll keep You posted! I rather expected that a lot of those master tapes no longer exist, but your release has generated some hope from me that there'll be additional future soundtrack albums. Will GAD ever be interested in diggin' into contemporary Polish concert compositions/experimental works? I'd be particularly interested in vintage recordings of music by composers of the 'Warsaw Autumn' (Tadeusz Baird, to name only one).
