Hi,

Someone knows what composer is writing the score of the new film directed by Warren Beatty about Howard Hughes?

Thanks

Not George Fenton then?

Well, if the op is THE George Fenton (unlikely) then I should say that the score for Going Gently was marvellous. Belated congrats!

If the op is A George Fenton (more likely), then I should say that the score for Going Gently was marvellous and that he/she should check it out. Enjoy!

Given either case, I know nothing about a Beatty Hughes movie so I can't help. But Beatty as Hughes sounds like a hoot!

Warren is a very good director.
I would watch anything he does.
A rare case of a good actor and director.

It would make perfect sense for Ennio Morricone to score it, as he scored the last three feature films that Warren Beatty produced (all in the '90s - "Bulworth," [also director] "Bugsy," and "Love Affair") but then again, Beatty's go-to cinematographer since "Reds" in 1981, Vittorio Storaro, didn't do the cinematography this time so who knows (Caleb Deschanel took the duties as DP this time so it ought to look great, but it would've been wonderful for Storaro to have done an American film again). With Morricone's schedule these days it wouldn't surprise me if he was unavailable for this, but as a second choice it would be great to see Beatty work with Dave Grusin again, who scored Beatty's "Heaven Can Wait" in 1978 as well as the Beatty-produced "Ishtar" in 1987 (which was shot by Vittorio Storaro). There's also Danny Elfman, who did a marvelous job on Beatty's "Dick Tracy" (one of Elfman's greatest scores in my opinion), but reportedly Elfman didn't have a good experience working with Beatty so it's unlikely they'd work together again.

I hope that Ennio Morricone could write the music of the film. But, there is no news about who is the composer.

The only thing I could find is that there is already a music editor on the film. Now, a music editor being onboard a film doesn't necessarily mean a composer has been picked yet, but I've found most of the time it does.

I did a quick look at his resume and he's rarely worked with a composer more than once, with these exceptions:

Christophe Beck
John Debney
and Trevor Rabin

Of course that doesn't mean it's any of them.

IMDb shows the status of the film as "completed", if that is indeed correct and there is a composer but not announced, chances are it's not going to well for said composer. In my opinion.

If this article from March is anything to go by, Beatty is in no hurry to complete this film:

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/07/movies/if-warren-beatty-is-directing-shooting-can-wait-for-years.html?_r=0

Sounds like the shooting is finished, but post-production and distribution will take as long as he feels it needs to.

One thought - wasn't Morricone's music for "Bulworth" composed and recorded before the film was shot or completed, with quite a lot of what's on the CD not being used in the film? If a similar practice was used for this Hughes project that would certainly explain why there is a music editor credited. In any case, I do hope Morricone is on this as it would be a great project for him.

I'm going to take a stab at guessing the composer here:

One of the additional music composers listed on the film's IMDb page has film after film after film listing where he did additional music, except one, for a composer named Richard Bowers.

So, that's my guess.

There is no composer for the film. It is all found music.

There is one original song written for the film, but the rest of it is Mahler and various fifties jazz tunes.

I respect Beatty as a director, but always found him a dreadful actor !
