It was many years ago.
Late Friday night.
I came home from a night out drinking with the lads.
Put the telly on and a film was showing.
I think I fell asleep before the end but one scene/sequence was quite disturbing...and I've never forgotten it.
Two male down and out/ne'er do wells are watching a live female wrestling match - in the USA...or Canada and they get quite pally with another audience member (female) as she robs their popcorn in a jokey manner by way of introduction.
Anyway, they all stumble home together drunk afterwards and the men try it on with the woman, I think she starts out consenting but then stops and it all gets a bit nasty and they end up killing her.
Cos it's a low budget indie film, it all feels a bit seedier and nastier than your usual Hollywood fare.
So...what was I watching...all those years ago?
Thanks.

I should add I think the film was from the 70's.

I think you dreamt the whole thing. You know what you're like - worse than Emily Bishop when you've had a couple of small sherries.

Doesn't ring a bell, but you might to try a search at Every Seventies Movie blog, authored by Peter Hanson. A new film is featured each day, from outright classics to the ultra-obsure.

These facts make me think you might have a few details blurry, Kev, so I'll say that a SIMILAR plot point motivated the TV miniseries (scored by L. Rosenman, no less) called "Celebrity".

It was an American TV movie from around 1980 starring one of the Bottoms brothers (the best-looking one), and a few other TV-types. It was only low budget compared to feature films, I guess.

Holy cow, I remember that movie! It was what I would call a "potboiler".
It was quite the big deal when it first ran (was it ever repeated?).
Am I right in recalling that Jennifer Warnes played the assaulted woman who then turned to religion and blew the bad guy away?

Sorry for veering off target, Ken.

I'm guessing I didn't get you further along with my comment. Sorry.

I'm just hoping it was a film on the telly and not a repressed memory . . . ;-)
