TUESDAY, MAY 5

STAR WARS: ANTHOLOGY---sources say the second ANTHOLOGY spinoff movie will be an "origin story" about bounty hunter Boba Fett. Josh Trank was apparently fired as director of the Boba Fett movie.
Also, JJ Abrams said he's planning an easter egg in THE FORCE AWAKENS, "I have a thought about putting Jar Jar Binks' bones in the desert there. I'm serious! Only three people will notice, but they'll love it."

INDEPENDENCE DAY 2---Sela Ward (THE FUGITIVE, CSI: NY) will play President of the United States Lanford in the sequel. Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox and Liam Hemsworth also star.
The sequel plot reportedly involves Earth using captured alien technology to repel another alien invasion.

INDIANA JONES---Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy confirmed a sequel is being planned, "[a sequel] ‘will one day be made inside this company. When it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.'”

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON---Joss Whedon said he wanted more superheroes in the sequel such as Black Widow, The Falcon, War Machine, The Vision and Scarlet Witch, “I wanted all those people, but I said, ‘It would be great if we could add a few more [characters], if we could have a Captain Marvel there, now that you’ve made a deal,’ and they talked about it. And I was like, ‘And Spider-Man, we could do that too, ’cause Sony had approached us during the first movie about a little integration. So I would have put both of [those characters] in, but neither of the deals were made.”
After filming finished, Marvel Studios told Whedon, “‘We’re making a Captain Marvel movie and we’ve got Spider-Man as a property,’ and I’m like, ‘I’ve already locked my film you f**kers! Thanks for nothing.”

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR---Chris Evans said about CIVIL WAR, “It’s to jump off into the next Avengers, INFINITY WAR”. So Cap 3 is going to be the set-up of the real battle, so there are a lot of people.”

STEPHEN KING'S IT---Will Poulter (WE'RE THE MILLERS, THE MAZE RUNNER) is in negotiations to play Pennywise the clown in the two-part movie series. Cary Fukunaga (TRUE DETECTIVE) is the director/co-writer.

THE STRAIN---FX released a poster for Season 2.

JOHN WICK 2---Keanu Reeves was confirmed as returning for the sequel.

THE SIMPSONS---Fox renewed the series for two more seasons.

MEAN MOMS---Jennifer Aniston stars in this movie based on the book QUEEN BEE MOMS AND KING PIN DADS. Sean Anders (HORRIBLE BOSSES 2) is the director.

PEARL---Juliette Binoche stars in this biomovie about Pearl S. Buck who wrote THE GOOD EARTH about struggling Chinese farmers.

SLEEPY HOLLOW---Orlando Jones announced he's not returning for Season 3.

LIVING ON VIDEO---new HBO/David Fincher series about the music video industry in 1980s Los Angeles.

I'M A COP---comedy movie from Louis CK in which a volunteer cop becomes a full-time cop after his mother, a highly-decorated, ex-cop, dies.

THE SIMPSONS---Fox renewed the series for two more seasons.

Why? The ratings are continuously dropping because it hasn't been funny in over a decade. The only viewer opinion I've read about why it should continue always seems to be "I couldn't imagine Sunday night without it." Habit doesn't make it good. The people working on the show who complain about its quality are no better.

Gotta be a revenue thing. Maybe it makes its money back from advertising or merchandising, so they keep going. That's my theory for Disney's/ABC's SHIELD.

Yes, because your not going to have your own cast of annoying as f-ck characters!

I bet you're right. The ad revenue is probably huge.

The ratings are fairly stable, actually. Down from its peak, but very good by today's network TV standards (in the sense that EVERYTHING is down now, thanks to On Demand, streaming, DVD, etc). They make a ton of money off of the syndication package, as well.

I'm talking about comparing '89 to now. It's a far cry from what it used to be. And, ratings aside, they need to learn when enough is enough.

You see Boba Fett was a sweet little boy that liked to build robots then...

Alos:

"Frankly, thanks to the prequels, I never need to see Boba Fett again. He used to be mysterious and badass, even though he died like a punk in Return of the Jedi, and then it turned out he used to be a kid with a bad haircut who somehow went from space orphan to feared bounty hunter. The mystery was solved, and the solution was awful. Boba is done. I’d rather have a movie about Ice Cream Maker Guy than Boba Fett."

I don't much like Jar Jar but what a goddamned douche JJ is. Its like he's wiping his muddy feet off in someone else's expensive rug.

(I called it a few months ago: Episode VII is going to be an impressively generic film that panders to the common person and they'll hail it as some brilliant return to form. The moment popular thinking and the audience have a say in storytelling, theres no fucking point in telling it because now its simply product.)

I totally agree. I used to love the Simpsons and the earlier episodes are still incredibly funny. But nowadays Imhardly even bother watching the new episodes, because they simply aren't funny.

To my mind, the whole thing started going down hill when they let Ricky Gervais write an episode.

Jar Jar is definitely in Episode VII.

The eagle-eyed amongst you may just spot him in the trailer if you look very very closely......

The eternal awesome hilarity of George Lucas saying the above is nearly equaled by the timid dissent of the voice off camera that says "Well..." in response to it. Someone mentions it in the 'tube comments section.

Serious question:

How involved, if at all, is George Lucas in Star Wars VII? I saw that photo of J.J. Abrams surrounded by Kennedy, Kasdan, and Williams and wondered why they (two of the three) were there? Was it just a photo op? Why are Lucas' cronies there?
