Serious question:

How involved, if at all, is George Lucas in Star Wars VII? I saw that photo of J.J. Abrams surrounded by Kennedy, Kasdan, and Williams and wondered why they (two of the three) were there? Was it just a photo op? Why are Lucas' cronies there?

Kennedy was in charge of LucasFilm. It's my understanding she kept that role after Lucas sold his assets to Disney. In fact Lucas said something to the effect, I know Star Wars is in good hands because she understands me and my vision. I don't know if Lucas is involved. I would assume not.

Because they're working on the movie. Kennedy, who hasn't previously worked on Star Wars but did work with Lucas on all four of the Indiana Jones movies, is the president of Lucasfilm and the producer of Star Wars - Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Kasdan co-scripted it, as he did Star Wars - Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars - Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (in addition to scripting Raiders of the Lost Ark), and Wiiliams is scoring it, as he did all six previous episodes (and, of course, all four Indy movies). Why wouldn't they be there?

When he first sold Lucasfilm to Disney, Lucas provided a treatment for the new movie's story, but so far it appears little or none of it is being used, and he doesn't seem to be working on it in any other capacity.

Alos:

"Frankly, thanks to the prequels, I never need to see Boba Fett again. He used to be mysterious and badass, even though he died like a punk in Return of the Jedi, and then it turned out he used to be a kid with a bad haircut who somehow went from space orphan to feared bounty hunter. The mystery was solved, and the solution was awful. Boba is done. I’d rather have a movie about Ice Cream Maker Guy than Boba Fett."

I never understood how Fett was "badass". He did nothing to be a badass in Empire or Jedi. He was never, ever a threat. Vader captured Solo and put him into the carbon freeze. Fett was just the guy taking him back to Jabba. He was the freaking UPS guy basically.

How did he earn a bounty? He didn't do a damn thing. They could have gotten Louis from Cloud City logistics to ship Solo back to Tatooine.

He's badass because he looked pretty cool, like a sci fi gladiator and had a menacing voice and demeanor. Really the last cool character created in the SW universe. Everything after that was a fracking Looney Tunes character!

Why does he deserve the bounty? Because he found Han and the Princess hiding behind the neck of a Star Destroyer and secretly followed them to the Cloud City where he alerted Darth of their whereabouts. wink

I never understood the love for Fett either.

Boba Fett gets all that love because those of us of a certain age cut out five (or however many) proofs of purchase and $1.99 s&h so six-to-eight weeks later, a rectangular box with him (and the then-latest SW toy catalog) arrived. I also got "Bossk" this way, too.

That's why. A cool-looking character whose aura of mystery quickly dissipated once he was stupidly disposed of in RotJ.

Here's a video of a fan discussing the Boba Fett action figure mail away:

Yes, I went through the "Mail Order Ritual" for the Fett figure too. (What a letdown/rip-off it was that it was non-rocket-firing, but that's another story...) It still doesn't change the fact that everything MikeP said above is true. Fett did close to nothing. To top it off, he's *accidentally* killed by a blind guy! Yet, he's held up as the greatest 'STAR WARS' character *ever* by vast numbers of fans. In my mind, a cool-looking suit is about all he has going for him....

And how did The Empire know that Solo and co were on Cloud City? Because Fett followed them to Bespin, that's why.
