Hi, all. So, my wife and I are fully self-employed now and are looking to buy our own health insurance for the first time. Only thing is, we are completely new to this area and haven't a clue where to start. We just want the best plan possible with a decent annual deductible. Are there companies of which to avoid like the plague, or perhaps better companies to look toward first? Anything to watch out for in terms of unsuspecting buyers like ourselves? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Regardless of who you get your pretty much paying a hundred percent of your own health care out of pocket unless you need hospitalization or surgery.
There's the co-pay and the deductible. Also some plans don't cover medications so that too is out of pocket in some cases.
I don't know if one company is better than another. I had headaches with Humana, and got screwed by Blue-Cross. I think it's all a crap shoot. You may never have a problem dealing with them.
Since the new ACA has opened up competition there's a lot more health insurance companies looking for your money. Which probably means plans across the board are similar in cost and services.
The other thing is I don't believe you are bound by any long term contract. Thus if you are unhappy with your plan you can get a new one the following year.
