If that's really a later day picture of Arnold I'm quite surprised he let himself go. Bodybuilding is a lifestyle and it's not something you stop with age. Also didn't he have heart surgery? Shouldn't he have a huge scar down his chest?

I have no idea who I would want to see direct this, if not Milius. Composing duties - assuming the film is good - might be slightly easier. John Debney? Given his faithful work to Silvestri`s Predator, he might render up something gloriously permutated.... Kilar...
This thing will really hedge on director. I fear that it'll be a flavor of the month-type, like Justin Lin, James Wan, or worse: Brett Ratner. I personally don't even have any personal choices other than John McTiernan or James Cameron. Someone capable of this level of "promise" who can not only deliver, but has worked with Schwarzenegger before and brought out the best in him. Maybe Martin Campbell in Mask of Zorro-mode.
Unfortunately Kilar passed away less than two years ago. But, I would often listen to his A King for Burning and dream of what he could accomplish on a Conan film. Sure, that's a highly religious score, but the choral work and the brass is just HUGE! And the recording isn't even that good!
But my vote goes to Debney. One need only dabble in his score for Lair before realizing he is the man for this job!

Lets face the facts. It's either going to Giacchino or Junky XL!

Giacchino surprised me with how BIG he was capable of with Jupiter Ascending. And as a fan of Holkenborg's Fury Road score, I could see him bringing an interesting NEW sound to Conan. But Tyler Bates already tried and failed with that one so I'd be pleasantly surprised if the producers wanted to honor Poledouris. Debney is my only bet for that. For new guys, I think Ryan Amon is definitely up for the task of an epic and violent successor to Poledouris triumph.

I'll be behind Debney if he can pull off another Lair. Powell would be awesome too based off of How To Train Your Dragon 2. But I suspect their gonna go into a "new" direction.
I vote James Mangold, Francis Lawrence, or J. H. Wyman. I'd prefer J. H. Wyman, but it'll never happen anyway.
As for a composer I'd love James Newton Howard, Don Davis (I want more from him!), Elliot Goldenthal, Cliff Eidelman, Chris Tilton, or Bernard Herrmann (via DeLorean).
