OK... we've been discussing this over at our local film music board, but perhaps some people here will be able to come up with more examples such as KINDGDOM OF HEAVEN or Day of the Dolphin composed by Georges Dolerue.

Here is one more example:

Interesting. I hadn't noticed there was no title on the left spine of COWBOYS & ALIENS, probably because I actually have the other spine facing out on all my CDs. It comes from the days when I had a handmade shelving unit that had drawers at the bottom. As I'd get more and more CDs to fill the shelves, all the CDs at the end had to go in the drawers. To keep them alphabetical and easily movable, I had to put them with the other spine out to keep the booklet from crunching up against the pins on the cases. Pedantic, obsessive, and typically me. smile

both spines of Cowboys and Aliens are the same... at least in case of the EU pressing.
Perhaps the US version is OK.

Here is one more example:

The case with C&A is clearly a mistake (of the pressing plant, maybe?), because it's only on the European (Colosseum) edition.

I had this one, but it was so frustrating to me that I gave it to a friend and bought again the American release from Varese (which has the title properly on the spine).

The US edition of Cowboys & Aliens is fine. I imported it.

Back in this old "Spelling Varese Wrong" thread, http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=70279&forumID=1&archive=0 , it was noted the original issue of "Total Recall" (non-expanded) contained a spelling error on "Sarabande" on one spine side but not the other. Funny. smile

Problem side:

Fixed on the other:

Probably made by the sort of person who re-types their email address into a second "confirm email address" box, rather than just Copy + Paste.

It´s the whole G-W:s production in the same cd?

This is a trivial one, but being an amateur typologist (I was studying digital typography at the time), it irked me that on Varese Sarabande's first release of THE OMEN, it said:

"Original Motion PICTURE Soundtrack"

It was actually in "small caps" so all capital letters but with the initial letters large and other letters small. Except for the word "PICTURE" which was all large caps.

Very, very trivial, nothing to complain about but like I said, as a typologist with OCD tendencies, it irked me!

Cheers

I checked my copy, and i have the sarbande-version. This is hilarious, as i purchased this cd when it was
released, it was my first Goldsmith cd and i've never noticed it. Does missspelling make it a rare collectors item? big grin

Gods forbid a company know how to spell it's own name!

In fairness, there's an FSM CD – is it "Raintree County"? – that says it's a "Film Score Monthy" release.

Moreover, the name is Varèse, not Varése.

How could they let this happen?!? My favorite score, i'll never get over it.

When you say "I have the sarbande-version", I realize my wording might've been vague. To clarify, when I wrote "spelling error on 'Sarabande' on one spine side but not the other", I meant literally that same VSD-5267 release has the different spellings on one spine side vs. the other spine side, and not that it's two releases/pressings/versions of the disc. So, that begs the question - if you turn to the other side of your disc, does it have it the correct way? smile I'm assuming this impacts all releases of the VSD-5267 except perhaps the Colosseum European rebrandings.

I remember an old LP from Japan of DAY OF THE DOLPHIN which said it was the:

ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUND TRUCK

And yes, by good ol' Dolerue!

I have it somewhere.

How about Intrada's ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ "composed and composed by Jerry Fielding"
(had the hamsters had the good sense to hire ME to write the liner notes, this fiasco could have been avoided)
brm
