in honor of the film’s release date 25 years ago today.
And lll be doing the same just now.
I saw the film on opening weekend with my then girlfriend. The theater was packed, the crowd enthusiastic and we had a blast. Of course, the soundtrack found its way into my collection very quickly. Instead of growing weary of it over time (decades), my appreciation for this Goldsmith work has only increased.
A few minutes ago I read a comment about the score likening it to a fractal. I truly believe that this is the most apt description of this complex work I've ever read. Even Lukas and Jeff Bond never quite nailed it (even though they struggled mightily to convince Hans Zimmer, not quite successfully ).
Wow, what a beautiful score. I'm a sucker for Asian-pastiche scores anyways, but this is wonderful, and the stereo(!) sound quality for a score recorded seventy years ago is remarkable.
