Rapsodia Satanica - Pietro Mascagni & Il Gattopardo - Nino Rota Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz/Frank Strobel
Everyone knows the masterpiece that is Rota's "Il Gattopardo" (The Leopard) but the real attraction here is "Rapsodia Satanica" written for the 1915 silent film by the composer of the wildly successful verismo opera 'Cavalleria Rusticana'. Strobel is a dab hand at this repertoire (his "Metropolis" and Meisel's "Berlin" recordings also for Capriccio are both excellent).
