i miss the complete score they used to do, there was a lot of music still missing before they started those tiny cardboard 2 scores on cd (that we all have). Anybody cares for those 50 cds (2 cds / month). All we have now is Quartet for future Morricone released.

ps. What about the spaghetti westerns, there are hundred still waiting !

I agree there seems much more that they should release and its not clear exactly what is stopping them, Morricone's TV work and scores from recent years would be my priority.
The latest Chi Mai magazine has a terrific article on unreleased curiosities

When and why did GDM stop? It's not something I was aware of. I've been collecting his back catalogue titles over the past few years, but didn't realise new ones weren't forthcoming from them.

What about Beat Records? Or Digitmovies?

Is there really only Quartet left to champion the cause?

With such small quantities pressed for some of these titles, there's still a handful I'd like to get but can't locate anywhere, so was hoping the licence rights periodically get passed around a few of these labels for another go.

I think it's clear what made them stopping. It takes months or years to sell even 300 or 500 copies of the rather obscure scores by Morricone. Soundtracks from mostly unknown films composed by other Italian composers are selling even worse.

GDM didn't stop producing soundtracks. They are just cooperating with other companies like Digitmovies, Kronos, Saimel, Quartet or Music Box that still release Italian soundtracks. Beat Records is also regularly releasing scores.

(*cough*) Varese in perpetuity (*cough*)

Anyway, now you mentioned a list, there are still a few labels interested, so let's hope they keep them coming...

Can you elaborate on that description please (with examples)?

I've collected around 200+ titles over the last few years, and seem to have avoided anything which sounds like that.

Thanks.

Seems I have acquired one of those recently, 'NOVECENTO' and 'SACCO E VANZETTI'.

2 CDs in a standard 2-disc jewel case, wrapped in an outer card slip-case sleeve. So nothing cheap-looking about it. I was surprised they bothered with the slip-case, as that must be an unnecessary additional cost to manufacture.

Is there somewhere I can easily monitor when new releases come out in this range?

From my experience, the 'New Releases - Italian Soundtracks' on Intermezzo Media's homepage (www.intermezzomedia.com) very quickly lists these 2CD GDM releases when they (will) become available.

I'm not sure about that. Most others have been releasing CAM soundtracks but I'm not sure who will release the RCA catalog like GDM did until last year. I was not under the impression that they are co-operating on those, unless you know more about it.

Also the recent Morricone 2xCDs are re-issues (complete), so if you already own these soundtracks, it is obviously not for you. I have no worry that if unreleased Morricone can be released, they will. I worry more about other composers.

The italian market seems saturated in the last few years.
Theyve been churning them out and runs have been getting less n less.
Lets face it, the generation of italian western and thriller giallo fans have been dying off.
You do get younger ones who hear a score and then get on board and collect in volume but they are fewer and fewer.

If you include non morricone titles, The last few years there have been just too many to collect so i dont get hardly any.

If gdm have switched their focus, it may be a factor. But this year some quite prominent producers who published in conjunction with Gdm have stopped altogether and this may have played a part in the titles they issue. I dont know.

As of yet I have purchased two of these... tiny bitty things. Packaging is excellent even though I don't care about the cardboard sleeve, and the sound is excellent. They are releasing EXPANDED releases previously released on GDM or VERITA NOTE. And by the way... the ones I have our now OOP so I'm guessing they are selling. Their first double CD was released towards the end of last year limited to 300 copies and it has SOLD OUT. Many of these Morricone rereleases now available again have been OOP for a long time and are expensive if tracked down. It's a good inexpensive way to catch up on Morricone for the ones who never got around it on the first take.

Jewel cases.

All very professional, nothing cheap and tacky.

The cardboard sleeve is just an additional (unnecessary) slip-case that you sometimes get, and just slide the jewel case out of it.

Like one of these (the first random google image that came up):

description from Intermezzo Media
We are launching a new GDM 2CD Album series of 100 Ennio Morricone Original Soundtracks (50 x 2CD Albums). 100 important OSTs of Maestro Morricone spanning from the sixties to date, recorded on 2 discs, one disc for each of the 2 original soundtracks of this series. The 100 titles will be released two by two once a month. We choose a 2 CD box, so that will lower the retail price, compared to a single CD album, and save some money on shipping as well. The packaging is very nice, with an elegant O-Card Sleeve and, later on, we will announce an art design decorated box to store together all the 50 albums of this GDM 100 Ennio Morricone Original Soundtracks series, which is so unique for soundtrack lovers and collectors. Graphic art design by GDM and IMR. Liner notes by Sijbold Tonkens.

How exciting, another Man Bag!

since they are not small digipack, imagine the size of the box !

I've been picking up a couple of these. I never had the expanded Faccia a Faccia...nice to catch up.

Yeah, I remember when I was a young whipper snapper and GDM released these expanded Morricone scores like LE MANI SPORCHE. But that was long ago...way back in 2014.

What are we talking about here? Is everybody 12?

Set aside that repackaged stuff. GDM JUST released 4 unreleased Riz Ortolani scores. Digitmovies just expanded Nicolai's JUSTINE and continues non-stop with their peplum score series. Beat seems to have a bottomless stash of unreleased Francesco DeMasi and Carlo Rustichelli they put out. More than half of what the Spanish label Saimel comes out with is Italian, including the recent expanded LA GABBIA and Rota's THE RELUCTANT SAINT. Quartet has expanded everything from FATTI DI GENTE PERBENE to DEDICATO A UNA STELLA and that great Antonioni box. Even Music Box has done French Morricone, Bacalov, Piccioni, etc.

So the best I can figure out is that European fans are just like American ones who want the same few dozen scores expanded and a handful of ones whose tapes have been lost. My total sympathies go to all you labels.

I was talking about the fact that GDM stopped the CD series in 2015, and new releases seem to go the lossy download route only. The Ortolani CD appears to be the last one. If they were simply waiting to release stuff, I wouldn't complain, but lossy downloads are a bit insulting for collectors.
