This was a sweet movie, but not great. However, I did find the music enjoyable. Odd mixture. Yes, I heard bluegrass and western sounds as well as tribal music. My husband pointed out that parts really sounded like Irish music, and I do agree. Some of the quieter themes are quite lovely. My favorite cue was Run With the Heard. (Heard???) The first 1:10 is a great sounding western cue. Love it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_xgxklzPYQ I agree on all counts. Cute film, not the best, though far from the worst and the score had some really nice moments. Jeff and Mychael at my Fans Of Film Music event last December could not have been any kinder to us fans. Really cool gentlemen.

I've just come off a constant watch and re-watch of this film, as the little fellas enjoyed it so much that they wanted to watch it again and again, complete with my silly comments and voice additions during their viewings It is a lovely little film, but I couldn't help wondering if a stronger, more emotionally 'on the nose' score may have benefited it so much more. Don't get me wrong, the music by the Danna bros was pleasant enough, with some nice moments, but I would have much preferred something more iconic or thematically richer. I'm thinking the resonance a composer like John Barry or James Horner could have given it (if they weren't dead). Even the original choice (Thomas Newman) would have delivered something more unique and memorable, I think. Still, their score never ruins any scenes and copes well enough, but I would have loved to hear something really stand out.
