By the way, it's extraordinary that they had preserved the isolated scores for these shorts!
Or maybe they will include some SFX too?
I remember some Disney feature soundtracks (eg. Peter Pan) contain SFX.
So, it will be surprising if these will be music only!

There will also be a concert. I wonder who the orchestra is?

"...the Disney Music Emporium will also be presenting Disney in Concert: A Silly Symphony Celebration, hosted by Leonard Maltin on Sunday, August 16th at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. These concerts will mark the first time a live orchestra performs the actual scores in sync with the films, re-creating the sound and feeling sounding of recording sessions at the original Disney Hyperion Studio in the ‘20s and ‘30s."

I hope the LP series does well, but I too question the lack of a CD version. It certainly wouldn't need 16 discs on optical. Maybe the concert will be recorded and released on CD instead.

My thoughts, too. I would LOVE to own this set, but only on CD. I've nothing against the resurgence of LPs, per se, but personally I don't want to go in that direction (backwards). One, it's too expensive, and, two, I prefer the size and convenience of CDs. I don't believe this LP resurgence is going to be anything more than a passing fad. I don't believe it will catch on in any significant way, but will end up being what laser discs were to VHS, barely a footnote. So if anyone who makes decisions about these kinds of things ends up reading this, please, PLEASE get this out on CD. Please don't turn music collecting into some kind of elitist thing.

Agree CDs or digital only or don't bother.

I think the question of music tracks vs music & effects or even composite soundtracks has to be answered before I go near this one.

Ditto! WTF?! I have to assume after an LP release we can at least expect a digital release.

I know it has already been stated there's a market for some LP's, but I for one am not going to own another LP player just to hear something.

I'm guessing this is ploy to appeal to people of older generations who played music on LP players or other variants, and would maybe be predesposed to buying LP. But I'm seeing more and more people who just twenty years ago couldn't hadle the work industry's overtaking by computer, using texting, having e-mails, using Twitter, etc. I think the bus has left the station on the idea of that appeal -- assuming, again, that was the plan.

It certainly is a ploy. Make it available for only one platform maximizing sales for what they see as a resurging market. I also wonder if they are working hand in hand with the companies that actually make record players. You need one to use the other. I still expect a digital or even CD release at some point in time.

A resurging market doesn't, however, mean of music. Is any company going to see a thousand copies of MMMBopand the Other Essential Hits of Hanson on LP?

I think somebody is going to be crying wee wee wee all the way home here.

If this were available digitally everyone would be screaming "BUT I NEED TO HOLD IT IN MY HANDS!"

Well, you can hold THIS in your hands!

Enjoy!

I agree, but if it is just the music . . . I'll have to get it. Looks very nice.

My question is about the price.

How much are they going to charge for 16 LPs in rather luxurious gatefold/color jackets?

When last I looked, 2-LP gatefolds were going for $18-plus each.

So...what? $150-$200?

Well my preference is CD, if not CD then I'll settle for digital. After grumbling about it. wink Giant LP set? No, not getting it.

I notice that the Disney Music Emporium doesn't necessarily feature CDs or digital downloads of items that exist in other formats from other retailers (Frozen, Nightmare Before Christmas, Guardians of the Galaxy mix tape) - they are putting a lot of focus on premium vinyl releases of music that does exist in other formats. (They do have some CDs beyond the legacy collection.)

So I wonder if the nature of this announcement is more to do with it coming from this boutique shop with its highly selective listings. Who knows, maybe Intrada will release the CD version!

Wow, that looks like a nice set. Undoubtedly the packaging will be high-quality and feature some gorgeous artwork; one of the advantages LPs definitely has over CD.

That said, I'll probably be holding out for a CD version of this; and if it never comes, well, that's life. I do have a record player, and a modest vinyl collection made up of some of my favourite (non-soundtrack) albums, both contemporary and otherwise. However, I'm not so invested in Disney's Silly Symphonies as to need such a premium set as this. I'd be happy with a more moderately-priced, 3 or 4 CD set in a quad jewel case (haven't been a fan of Disney Music Emporium's digipack Legacy packaging thus far).

I do have the Silly Symphonies on DVD, though, as part of the Walt Disney Treasures series. I guess that will have to suffice if this doesn't come out on CD.
