Sad news. He lent stature (both literally and figuratively) and dignity to a lot of Hammer and other British horror films, not all of which had those qualities inherently. He also had a great baritone voice and could have been an opera singer.

RIP.

I grew up watching this man.
It feels as though I've lost a close friend.

Yes, the Time Warp!...

An intelligent man, a brilliant actor, an imposing presence, an unforgettable voice!

Rest in peace, Sir.

You left out "legend". I always wished I had his imposing authoritative voice. I'm sure I'd have gotten a lot more things done.
From kack to cult and in between , I'm sure that we all have a favourite film and find Chistopher Lee in it.
Case in point for me: my favourite Captain America, and who do we have as the fierce opponent:

Thank you Prince of darness, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Sad to hear. I've only recently gotten into his Hammer movies and he was a great screen presence. I like his performances in LOTR most and also a nod to Wicker Man.

Sir Lee, you will be sorely missed.
As others have said, I grew up enjoying immensely his wonderful acting, especially those roles in which he was paired opposite Peter Cushing.
Christopher Lee’s appearances in Star Wars "Episodes II and III" were what made them worth watching for me and I’m delighted that newer generations were exposed to his performances in them.
As I understand it, his real-life personality was the diametric opposite of his often villainous on-screen roles.
RIP

It's not his latter performances that stick in the mind, but more so those of his former. RIP.

Yet another bit of gutting for me. I suppose it wise to remember that all people of all generations go through this, as those they venerate leave them.

Christopher Lee joined his fellow countryman Peter Cushing in heaven.
Both Hammer figures are gone now.

Oh no, not sir chris! Its a blow each time we keep lose one of these legends, these universal rocks who have been around all our lives.

Or as peter cushing called him "Christopher! darling! So good to see you"

a decent golfer, too.

..he will be making precision Baileys on a beach somewhere south of the border!

A full life to be proud of, but sad news.

Oh, my goodness.

I grew up watching Christopher Lee.

He's always been there, in the 58 years I've been watching movies.

I have about a hundred of his films on DVD and blu-ray.

I'm feeling this passing.

Farewell and god bless, Christopher Lee.

I was only 5 years old when I saw "The Horror of Dracula" (US title) in 1958/59. As long as I live, I will never, ever, forget the almost force-of-nature feeling that pinned me to my seat when Mr. Lee entered as the "feral" Dracula -- eyes bloodshot, teeth bared, blood in his mouth. His first entrance at the beginning of the film had been as a cultured, rather sexy, aristocrat. The shocking reveal of the "other" made my young blood almost stop flowing.

I loved that movie. And, of course, his frequent co-star Peter Cushing -- and the other actors who graced Hammer films. As a kid, if it was a Hammer film, I was there. Pirates - Rasputin - whatever -- they were always special.

There are so many roles to which he brought something extra -- and not just in horror films. A world in which there will never be a new Christopher Lee performance is a bit reduced -- paler -- less exciting.

Rest in Peace Mr. Lee.
