SPOILERS!!

I saw the movie yesterday and... I'm still undecided if it's better or worse than Lost World. Chris Pratt is ok in it, he does the leading guy role ok, but the rest of the adult cast meh. The children were not as annoying as in previous installments but this time around the management, military and scientists of that park are all idiots AND severely under-qualified personnel. And I get that you'd want these people around in a disaster movie where things are bound to spiral out of control even faster, but it's hard to believe the majority of actions, or "the story".

The first major one being the breakout of the Indominus creature... that's a big OOPS (especially since it still had the tracking device on at that point, yet later on cleverly gets rid of it?). That is followed up by an "Aliens" ripoff send in the cavalry sans lethal weapons (Where is Vasquez when you need her) and let's watch them get killed on the monitor. The sequence of events grow dumber as they pile on; yes, that includes the "send in the raptors" plan to try them out for battle on the only basis that Chris Pratt can have them do tricks. Oh, and how convenient to have the raptors talk when the plot allows for it and have that big Indominus creature team up with them on the sole premise that it has raptor DNA... yet it clearly has T-Rex DNA as well and when it sees one later on in the movie, they don't stop and chat? Hmm yeah. Makes sense I guess. Like being hit by a bazooka blast and surviving it. That must have been that bulletproof vest DNA they inserted into the Indominus when they installed the Predator cloak. Also, I don't get why Jurassic Park III was scolded for having talking raptors, as well as a different villain than the T-Rex; which this movie has as well, but at least the Spinosaurus kicked T-Rex ass (and was an existing species).

OK, I will say the loyalty issues between Pratt and the raptors does create drama but there are so many passes that the main cast get; I cringed every time they'd escape death only to hug kiss or crack a joke in next moment with the deadly mayhem still going on in the background. These people deserved to be killed by the dinosaurs and on that note the bodycount of this movie for me was far too low. I also didn't buy that corporate head Bryce Dallas Howard survived this movie, not from a legion of dinosaurs, but one of angry park visitors and lawyers who no doubt would have wanted to skin her alive.

Another issue I had with Jurassic World is that despite the scope of the park, everything feels like it's right next door to each other; the kids hop from one sector to the other, as do the grownups, and danger only strikes when the plot calls for it. The Pterosaurs who escaped the aviary only attack once, are not be seen again. That sequence with the kids in the bubble strolling through a herd of dinosaurs felt so short and lacking any sense of awe, it's just like they put as many dinosaurs in one shot because the CGI allows for it. Once they get in danger that sequence was very effective but how they outrun the Indominus to a conveniently placed waterfall nearby... yeah right.

In conclusion, for me there wasn't much to like about Jurassic World. It adds little to the franchise and felt like an unnecessary reboot. The many nods to the original grew tiresome real soon (that includes the score). You're being reminded time and time again how much better the original movie was as opposed to the reboot you're watching. Again I will point out Chris Pratt and Ty Simpkins were ok in it, but the majority of the movie felt like a "best of" of the previous movies without adding anything new.

Out of everything you mention (and you have a couple of good points), that one bothers me the most.

Just a thought...

Throughout this movie franchise, the Raptors have been presented as intelligent creatures who can learn. The T-Rex is just a....dumb bully...Perhaps this would explain that particular plot hole?

I think the previews prepared me for the worst, which led me to enjoy the movie more. I went in expecting the trained raptor stuff and the I-Rex stuff to be dealbreakers, but they were handled with a deft enough touch that it worked for me.

Yeah - I felt the same way

Not as much suspense as Spielberg pulled off so well in many sequences of his two movies, but much better action than anything in JP3.

I think by the 4th movie in the franchise, suspense is the hardest thing to create. I actually thought they did a good job in not going for a whole lot of suspense. As an audience, we've seen it all before.

The one thing that I thought was funny was when they said they called the new creature Indominus because it's easy for people to remember and say. I think it's neither. They could have come up with a better name than that. T-Raptor? Raptorex? Of course I've already seen it refereed to in its short form as I-Rex.

I.
...... I'll give you one example, a T-rex is in a cargo hold of a ship, some how breaks out, gets to the bridge (without damaging anything) tears the boat crew apart, then sneaks back down into the cargo hold before it aimlessly crashes onto the shore. Then not until someone opens the cargo hold doors said T-Rex pops out again! This latest movie based on what I read (confirmed from numerous posts) sounds like LW X 10.

you have misinterpreted the chain of events.
here is what ACTUALLY happened:

two raptors somehow got on board the ship and killed the crew. The T_Rex was in the hold the whole time on his way to the San Diego theme park.

For some reason this wS NOT MADE CLEAR IN THE FILM. I only figured it out on my second viewing.
It is obvious the filmmakers were setting up a "raptors loose in San Diego" sequel. I guess when they dropped that idea they forgot to mention that raptors killed the crew. But, if you watch the film closely you can see that is what happened.

Please, people who hate TLW_ just shut up already. Same goes for the CRYSTAL SKULL knuckleheads

But, it must be admitted that the undeservably nasty fate of Bryce Dallas Howard's young English assistant was a callous touch, right up there with Richard Schiff's similar end in THE LOST WORLD.

She was on her cell phone instead of watching the kids!
The b***h got what she deserved.

LOL

Dogs are intelligent mammals with big brains, dinosaurs had tiny brains and raptors were dumb as a chicken. The raptors in JP are a complete fantasy. Spielberg made them 400% bigger than the actual creature. That alone wouldn't give them intelligence.

So you're expecting 100% scientific accuracy in a sci-fi horror movie about cloning dinosaurs? Is that the best you have?

Yeah, he also expected scientific accuracy in the last INDY JONES film
