You're watching JURASSIC WORLD in the cinema and you see a helicopter with the serial number JW001 and you just know it's the films' producers letting the (Jurassic) World know that John Williams is Number 1.

You KNOW You're A JOHN WILLIAMS Fanatic When...

1. You explain to someone a composer of his calibre could never, ever have written Bad Girls* (or, you know, any one of 40 others of your choice)

2. Or that if he had, his fans would consider it a rare embarrassment and not just kid themselves it's a classic

3. You claim you have several examples of relatively minor films he chased for musical reasons when he was at the top of the tree, and point out he wasn't just banging them all in for a buck. Almost all of the big name composers do this (Horner, Zimmer, Elfman). But it's your Williams fanaticism (and desire for personal safety) that stops you from naming an obvious exception.

4. You make the ridiculous claim that Superman is a better score than Supergirl.

...on a more serious note...

5. You claim The Fury is better than The Omen.

Didn't JW claim for years that this was his best work along with CE3K?

You refuse to work on a case for the prosecution, solely because the defendant's name is "John Williams".

...your everyday outfit, regardless of the season, is a black turtleneck and charcoal grey slacks.

...at the age of nine you announce your ambition to grow a beard because "John has one."

You wonder why Williams was hired as an actor on Battlestar Galactica instead of composer.

You want to live on "John Williams Road", which is an actually a real street in the area that I work (Franklin, TN)

...you long for a release of Daddy-O.

...you lament his departure from the Harry Potter series because you have specific developments of specific themes set up in his early scores that you were hoping to hear.

...you get really excited whenever you're watching an old movie and the name "John Williams" comes on the screen, even though *you know* it's the actor and not the composer!

...you know which parts of Fiddler on the Roof were written by him.

...you sat through Heartbeeps to appreciate his score in-film.

...you think Family Plot is maybe the greatest-ever Hitchcock score, even counting the Herrmanns.

...you go on an on about how Jane Eyre is the best thing he's ever written.

...you tirelessly defend his chosen album arrangements, even the combining of completely unrelated cues like The Flag Parade and whatever horribly boring bit of underscoring meandered around for minutes before it.

Yavar (guilty of all except the last one)

P.S. Wow, McD! You came into a fun John Williams thread just to crap all over Goldsmith and Goldsmith fans. Way to go! We need more people with your great attitude on this board.

Unless you know you smell of shit, you have no need to feel crapped on.

It's a play on a Goldsmith thread as you well know.

But by all means, play the victim again. You're a swell guy.

How was I playing the victim here? Unlike in the other thread, you didn't even attack me personally. You came in to a fun John Williams thread and instead of participating in the point of it, you used it as an opportunity to be negative. That's a shame in my view. But that's the last word I'll say in this thread about it because I don't want to derail another one. Shoulda just learned from last time and kept my mouth shut in regards to you, but your behavior really gets under my skin I'm afraid.

Yavar
