I'd love to go, but the nearest screening is an hour to and an hour from me I can't afford that. I'm surprised this isn't being shown at any theater in my county. My county is one of the top tourist citites in all of Florida. Every time there are one of those re-releases of old movies, especially ones I would like to go see again in the theater, there's never one near me.

Saw it last night and it was terrific as always. Not too many people there unfortunately, but a friend in another city informed me her showing was packed. The picture looked terrific and the sound was as good as could be expected (always seems kind of muddled). TCM's Ben Mankiewicz bookended the film with some basic behind-the-scenes facts, and I was pleased he spoke about the score on both occasions. Hearing the music in a big theater was great and it wasn't dialed down in the mix as Back to the Future had been a few years ago. Quite a lot of fun overall!

I still think it's Spielberg's best movie, made while he was still young, energetic and hungry. Everything about this film is top notch.... I agree it IS Spielberg's best movie. He's made bigger movies, movies that are more "important", but he's not made such a "perfect engine" to quote Hooper. My local theater last night wasn't packed, maybe 25 people, but still not a bad showing for a 40 year old movie that runs on AMC almost weekly and can be had on DVD for $5. The damn thing still works like a dream. I first saw it back in 1975 and remember that day well. My brother was had just finished his hitch in the Navy and was home, mom took us and our sister to the packed Center Theater, and my life was changed. Jaws inspired me to love movies on a deeper level, got me interested in movie-making, storytelling and screenwriting ( I'd already gotten into film music ) . Over the years I've seen Jaws well over 100 times, and it never gets old. Interestingly at the screening last night, the couple sitting in front of me got up and left as soon as the shark is killed...I mean at that moment. The shot of the explosion is still onscreen as they stand, Brody is laughing as they hit the isle - WTF is with that? You sat there for 2 hours and couldn't wait 2 more minutes? Also, aside from the odd couple, everyone sat through the end titles. Granted the credit crawl is about 2 minutes, not the 10 today's blockbusters are saddle with, but still struck me as odd to see everyone sitting there watching the credits. But a wonderful, wonderful movie, and how nice it was to see it on the screen again.
