Since I guess most people don't know this Greek film about the life of the great Greek poet Cavafy, I thought to start this thread about Vangelis' music for any Vangelis fans that might be interested.

There is only an unofficial release of this score which contains dialogue and sound effects
(http://www.discogs.com/Vangelis-Cavafy-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack/release/1002605), and also one track (the opening titles) has been officialy released in the Vangelis compilation "Odyssey".

Vangelis won the Georges Delerue Prize for this score at Ghent International Film festival in 1997.

I would welcome the idea of an official release without SFX of this quite good ambient electronic score.
Here's some samples:

and here's the trailer of the film:

I knew you would be one of the first (if not the first) to respond! wink

I have surely heard of it, but have never seen the film.

I find it peculiar and strange that so much of V's film music is unreleased on CD.

Unfortunately the OP:s example cd is a boot. But that´s what happens when
Mr. Papathinassiou doesn´t care about releasing his music. And don´t get me wrong-
When i started listening to music as a kid, it was Vangelis. Always Vangelis. I loved his music, and
i still love. It was funny as when my friends listened to AC/DC, Metallica and Manowar, i put Pulstar, Spiral and Heaven and Hell to my cd player.

So, over these years, i´ve given up hope for these unreleased scores.

Pleasantly surprised and very glad that someone posted about the film/score on this board.

It's incredibly difficult to get the film on DVD (even in Region 2), which is a shame since the film deserves a wider audience; it's a biopic with a unique twist (Cavafy never talks, only his poetry is heard as narration). And of course the music is full of lovely themes.

My dream is that one day the film can receive a 2K or 4K transfer, along with a proper soundtrack release

That would be beyond words!!
The beautiful cinematography would benefit much from the restoration and HD transfer.
But I doubt it..

How have you seen the film MutualRevolver?
Is there an official DVD with English subtitles?
The PAL DVD that I have watched is quite good, but of course there is large room for improvement.

Through an acquaintance in Spain, I was able to acquire the rare, out-of-print DVD from 2004, and it was only available in PAL format. It did have English subtitles, but unfortunately they were 'delayed', meaning that the text stayed onscreen long after a character stopped speaking!

All of which is to say that there is definitely room for improvement, especially to hear my favorite cue (when Cavafy visits the Parthenon after his mother passes away) in its proper, untouched pitch
