=========

UPDATE 9:42pm PST

It's probably as official as we're going to get tonight. I wrote this hours ago, when I needed to get it off my chest. My heart is extremely heavy today, and I am devastated and saddened to learn about the untimely death of Oscar-winning composer James Horner. His music captured my ears at a young age, and emboldened my interest and passion for film music. I had the good fortune to meet him on many occasions, covered a few of his scoring sessions, and produced some of his soundtrack albums. I know that he was a very private person, and I want to express my deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues in this very difficult time. He touched the lives of millions through his music, and will be sorely missed.

The pilot is dead. According to the article:

"It was not immediately clear whether or not the pilot was Horner himself."

This could be very bad news. Strange that the incident happened this morning and there is no additional information to be found.

It's possible Horner wasn't in the plane. But why would someone else by flying his place?

This doesent look good folks ....

But maybe we are speculating here ...

Horner’s representatives have not commented on the issue, apart from stating that a tail number was all that was found at the site thus far.

It's possible that the pilot has been identified, but the information isn't being made public until next of kin can be notified.

And quite rightly so.

This is sad regardless but please let it not be Mr. Horner.

A couple of unofficial sites that I wouldn't necessarily rely on are saying Horner is dead. At the moment I'm going to hope somebody simply re-interpreted the news articles.

I can't go through this again. Poledouris, Goldsmith. It's tough losing people who had such influence on your childhood. I'll be a wreck the day John Williams goes. Whoever died in the accident will be in my prayers, but I really hope it wasn't Horner.

This is quite devastating. We've lost Michael Kamen, Basil Poledouris, John Barry, Miles Goodman, Maurice Jarre, Elmer Bernstein, Jerry Goldsmith, and others in recent years. Adding Horner to this list would be just horrible.

Does Mr. Horner do the Facebook/Twitter thing? Perhaps someone could check to see if he has posted there very recently.

If they got any sort of comment from his representatives, wouldn't they be quick to say he wasn't involved in the crash of that were the case?

Sending out hope...
