The problem with JURASSIC WORLD's pterodactyl attack is that people seem to be running everywhere except indoors, rendering the whole scene absurd. On top of the absurdity, that is, of the world allowing pterodactyls to be kept in a breachable aviary ... or allowing them to be kept at all. So even the film's best scene undermines itself with its own stupidity.

It's interesting that you reviewed Jurassic World and Tentacles in the same week. Tentacles is satisfying because nobody expects anything from such low-rent trash, so when it turns out to be Sharknado-type fun it is a pleasant surprise. Jurassic, on the other hand, has so much more of everything going into it, so it feels disappointing even though it does deliver some neat dino effects. I suspect the truth lies somewhere in-between, and that Jurassic isn't THAT bad for a virtual remake, just so much less than we have come to expect from the Spielberg hit machine.
The real mystery, to me, is why Captain America: Winter Soldier was as good as it is. It sure didn't have to be so loaded with a dense political plot, and characters that relate as more than quip-masters, and who's-on-who's-side action. It used to be that "comic book writing" was a derogatory term, and films improved on New York Times bestsellers by opening them up cinematically. No more. Now it appears that it is Spielberg that needs to go to the Marvel school to see what real writing for films can be. Maybe take on The Silver Surfer and Galactus. I know Marvel writing is not The Godfather or Citizen Kane, to be sure. But it's a whole lot better than Jurassic or the last Robocop or the abysmal looking Fantastic Four coming up (which is too-obviously and erroneously leaning heavily on the Marvel logo as sucker bait).

As a huge fan of the original film and also of the novel, I have to say I disagree. I've seen Jurassic World twice and loved it. It was intense and a very natural extension of the science in the first one and even more so the book. I had zero problem with suspension of disbelief and liked the subversive keep ramping up the spectacle to jaded audience that winds up being a commentary on itself whether by design or not. I had a blast. Kick back and have fun. Its all just a movie.
