American music has lost Mr. Schuller at age 89.

First James Horner and now Gunther Schuller. It couldn't get worse. R.I.P. you two.

An important figure in modern music - both as a composer and a teacher.

Of his his best symphonic works is "Of Remembrances And Reminisces" which was pit out on C.D.. An underrated composer.

I read about that one in his obituaries, and will now get ahold of a copy.

I love the album he recorded with the Modern Jazz Quartet, especially the track, "England's Carol," a magical arrangement/orchestration by John Lewis and Schuller of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen."
