I feel the loss of JH immensely.

Obviously his loss is keenest in his family, friends and colleagues, and to them I give my heartfelt condolences.

But I've lost a musical soul mate. I may not have known him, and only met him once briefly, but I can never shake how much his music touches my soul. The melancholy that sits within Horner's style is something that no other composer has ever come close to matching, for me.

I listen now to his 'Horsemen' music, to 'Apollo 13', to 'Field of Dreams', and I can do nothing but cry. When I've listened to these before they have always stirred positive, hopeful emotions. It is amazing to me that two diametrically opposed emotions can be stirred by the same music. It is a cathartic melancholy that for me only Horner's music could do.

That there will be no more is something I find very hard to imagine, let alone contemplate.

All I can say is that today, all I feel is hurt and loss, and the tears are so hard to hold back.
