Does anyone know if the music hall and opera numbers as well as "The Kangaroo Hop" from "The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes Smarter Brother" (1975) were written by the film's composer, John Morris, or are they period pieces? It's something I've wanted to know for years. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Don't know why, but I feel obligated to help out here. Those are authentic period music hall numbers. I'm guessing Wilder came across them during his dramatic training in England. The opera is Verdi's "A Masked Ball" ("Un Ballo in Maschera") with a particularly wacky translation of the libretto supposedly by the Dom Deluise character, but obviously in actuality by the screenwriter, Gene Wilder.
I've always believed this would make a terrific soundtrack CD, what with Morris' swashbuckling adventure score, and Wilder's & Kahn's considerable musical comedy skills.
Thank you SOOOO much, Sigerson (I love your name, by the way)! And you are 100 percent correct about it making a wonderful soundtrack. It could be paired with "The World's Greatest Lover." I would also love to see a new "Young Frankenstein" CD with just the score. Maybe our dreams will come true one day!
