CH, I keep trying to open that web page you posted and keep getting "web page can't be displayed." I'll keep trying.

You’re right, Joan. The link I posted won’t open. It does open from my search engine though?

Here are the 12 images that are on that link. All of them are in Dorset:

Thanks, CH. I did watch the Julie Christie version about a year ago and was swept away by the lovely landscapes. Obviously, some similar places are used in the current movie.

The incredibly steep Golden Hill, in Shaftesbury,Dorset also figured in one of the UK’s most famous TV ads - for Hovis Bread ....

Which itself was later parodied in this famous sketch by Ronnie Barker ....

Yes! And I just had a revelation -- a rather amusing "Alien" connection -- Sir Ridley's Hovis ad includes a closing narration by Ian Holm, "It's as good for you today as it's always been. I can't lie to you about your chances. But you have my sympathies."

Sorry to derail your thread, Joan. I promise to check out your film.

CH, I could see both adds. Really funny. If I get to England, I'll see if Hovis bread is still around.

Hey, welcome dogplant. Very funny.

Now, waiting to hear from all of you that you went to the movie and loved the landscapes. Get on it!

Yes, Hovis used to be just one kind, dark brown and very malt bran-ish, and an acquired taste, but now there are all kinds of seeded varieties etc..

Cut as a doorstep it makes decent toast. Espec with marmalade.

May i say im Proud to be a small part of the most self indulgent in-crowd thread on the forum since.... the last one!
Probably the one about tallywackers.

How we go from far from madding crowd , julie smug christie and dorset to hovis bread, well, im not sure.

But its been fun.
