Lucky Giacchino for being able to do what he loves.

I was thinking the same thing about Tomorrowland and Jupiter Ascending, but not Jurassic World, because that movie made a lot of money. I really liked Jurassic World, but maybe that's because I always loved dinosaurs. It wasn't nearly as good as Jurassic Park, or the JP score, but I didn't expect it to. I thought it was still a good movie, and a good score. But, I agree with Brandon Brown, "lucky Giacchino for being able to do what he loves". The guy loves what he does, so he could care less probably. Giacchino has done scores for 3 flops: Tomorrowland, Jupiter Ascending, and John Carter. I heard in an interview of Giacchino about John Carter being a flop, that there are still people who say to him "I actually liked the film", and that it will always be available for anyone who wants to see it, or listen to the score. I also liked John Carter, both the movie and the score. I haven't seen Tomorrowland or Jupiter Ascending yet though.

Just for the record now that I've seen Tomrrowland. It's a million times better than Jurassic World. The actors had a lot of chemistry together. Their banter was actually quite funny. The CGI effects were cooler, and the sound design was outstanding. So I say he scored a good (though not perfect) film.

Oh yeah. I forgot about that one. I'll probably never watch that movie.

Star Trek V - one of the worst films, one of the best scores.

I purchased all three soundtrack albums - and the scores are just incredible. So 'poor' may be stretching it, especially considering how much money he's making from them. He's done what the truly great film composer's of all-time always did, Goldsmith being already mentioned in this thread but it's true of so many of the greats: they wrote for any film AS IF IT WERE a masterpiece. Which brings to mind another old Hollywood maxim: 'Every film IS a masterpiece...until the first reviews appear.' Well done Michael, you've convinced me that you're in line for the John Williams-of-our-age baton. (P.S. The only one of the three which as a complete and total stinker, in my view, was' Jupiter Ascending'. 'Jurassic' was fun ride, popcorn-muncher and 'Tomorrowland' had great intentions (not fully realized) but a terrific message for young people today!)

With the amount of money he's going to make on the secondary market payments and royalties for those films. I don't think he's thinking Poor Me smile One of those movies royalties would most likely be enough for a family of 4 to live off of in the Midwest for DECADES!

Poor Giacchino? Don't you mean poor Marco Beltrami? Having scored The Seventh Son, F4ntastic and Hitman: Agent 47, three of the worst films of the last couple of months.

For my money, Giacchino wrote one of the best scores of the 21st century for a film that was excoriated by critics but, in my estimation, wrongheadedly.

"John Carter" is a terrific film. The score is dazzling!

Agreed. A film grossly misjudged and panned by internet hype.

I agree. I just watched it again last night after listening to the score. I haven't seen it in awhile, and it was even better than I remember. I think a lot of people just didn't know what the movie was, with a title like "John Carter". I didn't know what it was either.
