THURSDAY, JUNE 25

THE CIRCLE---Emma Watson will co-star with Tom Hanks in this movie based on the novel about an internet monopoly that uses personal data, emails, social media and online banking to invade personal privacy. Watson replaces the departed Alicia Vikander.

DAS BOOT---remake underway of the 1981 Wolfgang Petersen U-boat movie at German studio Bavaria. Juergen Prochnow starred in the original movie.

GOTHAM---James Frain (THE TUDORS, TRUE BLOOD) will play villain Theo Galavan. His sister/co-villain, Tabitha, has not been cast.

HEROES REBORN---new trailer released for the NBC sequel miniseries.

HANNIBAL---Bryan Fuller commented on the cancelled series being picked up, "I know there have been discussions on a couple of fronts with Netflix and Amazon. But I believe our deal with Amazon precludes a Netflix component... I don't think contractually with our Amazon contract, they can pick up the show."
He added, "Amazon makes the most sense, honestly, because they have been great partners with us for three seasons and we are exclusively streaming on Amazon...But we're at a dance and we want to be asked out on the floor. All suitors are welcome."

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR---William Hurt confirmed he's returning as General Ross, “[Ross in Civil War] is different because it’s a different style. It’s a more modernized style. And what they’ve done is they’ve taken a character who was the Ross from the older film and made a new version. This is a much newer Ross. A much different Ross. And I liked that a lot. I haven’t had a lot of time to understand it, but I’m doing the best I can. And they haven’t fired me yet.”

FURIOUS 8---Jason Statham said he's returning for the next sequel, “We’re already talking about doing another one, Part 8. I’m a newcomer! I just got invited to the party in this last one so it’s nice to know I’m gonna be doing another… They’ve always got something good up their sleeve, and I don’t want to be the one who spoils the plot lines but there is some great stuff I already know about.”

BLACK PANTHER---Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed he talked with Ava DuVernay (SELMA) about directing the movie.

SHADOWS---Carlos Saldanha (RIO) will direct this 20th Century Fox movie involving cryptozoology, the study of mythical monsters such as the Loch Ness monster, Yeti and Bigfoot. No other plot details were released.

SCREAM QUEENS---Charisma Carpenter (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER) has joined the cast.

AMERICA'S GOT TALENT---Howard Stern said he's not returning as a judge for next season.

MR. ROBOT---USA Network renewed the series for Season 2.

TRANSPARENT---Amazon renewed the series for Season 3.

DAS BOOT is perfect just the way it is.

This is a film that doesn't need to be remade.
Everything new audiences need to see is right there in the original.
Discover the original.

I can't find any info about a remake of Das Boot. Is the new one in English ? Still set on a German submarine? If it is English, why not have an American sub in the Pacific, or an English sub in the Atlantic. I'm all for more sub films.

Let's just hope the remake will have an all-female cast. That way, the egregious slap in the face that is the original film can finally be "corrected."

To met the current university hipster over-sensitivities, it would at least have to be:
black, lesbian, handicapped, single parrent, low- to no-income, transgenders.

I finally saw Das Boot for the first time last month and have re-watched it three times since. Why the heck does Hollywood need to remake such an incredibly great film on all counts? Its been out for a long long time and has not suffered at all in any category that I can see.

Amazing that anyone would even think of trying to do this one again.

It's not a Hollywood movie this time. They do remakes in other countries as well, you know. They always have done.
