I posted earlier this week about going to Western NY to hunt for film scores. I spent 2 days doing every single thrift store and record/CD store and about 10 garage sales in Buffalo. My hard work paid off as I found 87 scores for about $200. The best place BY FAR, and I mean BY FAR, was Record Theater. Thousands of scores, most only $4.99. They showed to the "backroom" where the overstock was. I found tons in there. The owner said she loved people who bought film scores, saw my stack and charged me $2.99 for each.

Yes, I spent $111 on a hotel room, but I was planning on taking a vacation somewhere anyway, so that doesn't count. And gas? A friend drove and paid for the gas.

Best film score hunting days ever.

Their web page is http://www.recordtheatre.com/ and they do have a FB page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Record-Theatre/58040941498.

They don't add up to much, but at least it gives you ways to contact them.

As far as interesting finds, I struck out. The only two oddball CDs I came across were Robocop: The Mini-Series and Waltzing with You (Music from Brother's Keeper). I got Robocop for $4.99 and amazon's lowest price is $16.03. Waltzing with You was $2.99 and I see amazon's lowest price is $24.95.

I have no intention of reselling any of these, but I looked up each one and looked at its lowest price. Most were only worth a few cents.

I calculated that if bought all of these CDs individually on amazon, it would have come to $169.43 for the CDs and $347.13 !!!!! for the shipping. So in sum, I spent $200 on something that was worth $516.56.

I am happy. lol

That's cool, barryfan. Congrats! I would have gone nuts in a store like that some 10-15 years ago. These days, however, I only buy downloads (except for Williams, Elfman etc., where I buy physical discs for completism's sake). Still, I wonder if the passion would have been re-ignited, had I entered a store like that today.

I would think you would at least peruse them to see what CDs they had. They had stuff I never even heard of. And again most were $4.99 or less. I suspect you would have walked out of there with something. smile

I might have taken the mickey elsewhere, but I would have done much the same. In fact, have done, on a smaller scale.
