Don't be too bummed out about it! Prague is a highly localized location, and this forum is global - to anyone living there (or anyone living anywhere), it may seem like where they are is where all the excitement is and trumpeting these events is the way to go - and it is helpful to drum up interest - but it's often just disappointment resulting from people who don't have the means or budget to travel to the events. If we knew it was being recorded for radio streaming broadcast or DVD/Blu-Ray/streaming that might increase the interest.
Seriously...I would kill to go to this concert if it didn't mean two connecting flights and a $1200 ticket! Seriously great concert. I wish we could have something like this in the USA.
It's interesting that there is always hundreds and thousands of people flying in for Cordoba, Krakov, Vienna etc... and it's always such a struggle to get anyone to come to Prague, although we've been doing this for a while too, you know... and some amazing guests have attended our events - Rachel Portman, Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, Ilan Eshkeri, Nicholas Hooper, Elliot Goldenthal, Patrick Doyle, Fernando Velázquez, Harry Gregson-Williams and now we have a few GREAT guests in negotiations too to attend our Horner/Giacchino concerts...
Perhaps this Lokutus can stop being so unprofessional and let the organizers handle the event. Seems like he is doing more harm than good to any future event with his opinions.
Perhaps this Lokutus dingdong can stop being so unprofessional and let the organizers handle the event. Seems like he is doing more harm than good to any future event with his fanboyish opinions.
Yeah... truly productive comment. Keep them coming... (moderator notified)
I would love to make it back to Prague one of these years. Krakow is just so huge. It's five days and some concerts in stadiums. It just seems bigger.
Hey, all jokes aside there's literally no film music festival in the USA despite all the film music written here. All these great composers are going to Prague, Krakow, Ghent, etc...but you would think it would be easy to get these composers, mostly based in LA, to go to NY or Chicago.
It's unfortunate. On the rare occasion that there is a concert, like that LA concert honoring the memory of Elmer Bernstein a couple of years ago it was poorly attended. The concert in Orange County (one hour south of the center of LA (only takes an hour because of traffic) which had concert music by Horner, Williams, Goldenthal, and Shore was also not nearly sold out.
I don't know what the story is with film music lovers who don't go to concerts. Just last week I skipped the Elfman concerts in New York where I go almost every week for work. And then this past weekend I skipped the Rozsa concert in Boston.
What I'm saying is that if I can't make into Cambridge from 10 miles away, don't hold it against people like me who love film music but can't make it to Prague. Just keep doing your good work!
Well... the specific way the tribute to JH will be presented is still being planned and negotiated and it will also depend on availability of possible guest(s)... one very cool name is on the list and it would be a dream if (s)he could make it
What is certain for now is that it will take place on October 25th in Rudolfinum and will feature FILMharmonie, boys choir Boni Pueri (which also performed our Goldenthal concert) and brilliant soprano Christina Johnston all conducted by Chuhei Iwasaki. The selection should include some of the greatest hits including Apollo 13, Titanic, Avatar, Star Trek 2, Legends of the Fall or Braveheart. The tribute will start at 14:00.
-------------------
Then the same evening we will have Fernando Velázquez back who will conduct Michael Giacchino in concert, which will include several world premieres such as Inside Out, Jurassic World or Jupiter Ascending as well as many of the greatest hits - Up, Mission Impossible 4, Star Trek Into Darkness, Lost, Cloverfield etc,.... the preliminary programme is available on our website but there might some slight tweeks here and there (but the list of the scores is pretty much final - although there WILL be "some" encores too) The Michael Giacchino concert is scheduled to start at 20:00
It will be possible to buy a ticket for either of the concerts or discounted ticket for both. The tickets sale should start next week.
Not to be confused with The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra ..... and on the website it says that Tadlow Music are partners for the concert. This is certainly not the case.....
