Hello compatriots.

Pretty shameless, spamy, etc. of me to do this, but what the hell...

Last summer some friends and I cobbled together a little 2 minute movie, so I hurriedly wrote and directed a movie during a window of time when some resources were available cheaply to me. Having a tendency toward darker material, I decided to concoct a lighter piece than usual. Anyway, we finally got around to posting it online this morning. This thing is hardly emblematic of my usual style, tone, etc. as a filmmaker, but what the hell. You only live once. It's far far FAR from perfect and very undemanding stuff, but hopefully it'll put a smile on your faces:

The score is by a frequent collaborator of mine, Nate. We had a 50-piece orchestra on our last project together, and that score got him a Student Emmy nod (he actually WON for a different film, in fact). Here we didn't have enough money to buy new shoelaces, let alone use an orchestra, so we had to mostly use samples unfortunately - Hopefully this is the last such project that will be the case.

I worked closely on the score with him, and we agreed to start with something minimal and electronic that builds to a Golden Age-climax over the short 2-minute runtime. Since everything in the film is supposed to be a product of a young boy's imagination, I told Nate to allow his score to reflect this - Note the little nod to GAME OF THRONES in the rhythms section during the middle portion, for example.

I didn't temp the film and told him to have fun, but was adamant about the placement of certain elements - The timpani and woodwind flourishes for example, as heard after the space ship reveal and over the final shot. That's actually me playing triangle on that last shot!

Anyway, I'm aware of the film's shortcomings, but comments/thoughts are always welcome and wanted from fellow FSMers.

Cheers guys!

Wow. Impressive. Those are some great SFX for a no-budget film!

Thanks Thor. I certainly have my trepidations about the VFX quality (the compositing especially), but we were basically gifted time and resources, so I can only complain so much.
