I just saw the film - for the first time!

I understand that the score was kind of similar to 48 Hours. Did Horner ever write another score in this style?

I guess some may call the music obtrusive, others propulsive. I think it's cool.

Check out Gorky Park for a similar sound.

Red Heat counts too, at least when it isn't all Russian chorus!

I think it's great!

Both 48 Hours and Another 48 Hours are very similar.

Who was the Bass player on Red Heat? I heard it was Stanley Clarke but that's a vague recollection.

Man, growing up I watched this movie like other kids watched cartoons. Your first time? Really?

It was Neil Stubenhaus ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Stubenhaus ) on bass for "Red Heat". Other musicians participating on that score were:

Michael Boddicker (synths)
Brandon Fields (saxophone)
Kazu Matsui (shakuhachi)
Tim May (guitar)
Steven Schaeffer (percussion)
Ian Underwood (synths)

I Love You To Death has Horner applying similar grooves to a comedy. The score has never been released sadly, but a DVDrip has been doing the rounds for years.

This is one of my favorite modes for Horner. It's cacophonous and slick at the same time. 48 Hours and Gorky Park use this sound well. I also like the Bus Boys songs on 48 Hours.

Would love to see a re-release of Red Heat as I never picked up that CD, and would gladly purchase I Love You To Death. I only know the latter score from the film, but it's a lot of fun.

There is a cue in Project X that has this sound, towards the begining of the film...

I also watched it for the first time recently (got the nifty steelbook Blu-Ray release at Best Buy), and it's pretty damn funny. Whether or not it's intentionally funny, I leave to the individual tastes of the viewer. Horner's music really adds to the overall live-action cartoon feel...it's hard not to bust out laughing at the bizarre melting of steel drums, saxophone (a totally 80's sound) and synths. I mean, it's sorta cool and all but just...weird.

When i saw the film back in 1985, I wanted to have this score. Horner was the 'rising star' at that moment, his scores to 48 Hrs. and 'Uncommon Valor' had impressed me very much. Then years later, the Varèse Club' released this score, and............. I was very disapointed. Apart from the Main Title and one or two action tracks, this is not a good listen.

In this action mode, the best tracks are actually on 'Gorky Park'. More 'full bodied' and more inspiring, and very exciting.

I guess I had a different youth than you. I was 10 when this film came in 85, no way I was able to see it at that time.

"Clear and present danger" is in sections virtually a clone of "Commando". It even uses the main "Commando" theme in the section with the autocade driving to its entrapment.
