Diego Navarro conducts the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and Tenerife Film Choir

Music by John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner, Thomas Newman, Elmer Bernstein,
Bernard Herrmann, Danny Elfman, Alfred Newman, Hans Zimmer, Basil Poledouris, Dave Grusin,
Craig Armstrong, John Powell, Alan Silvestri and more!

2 CD set

Fimucité 9 begins in Tenerife this week and we are so excited to celebrate the occasion with this special 2 CD release of one of the festival’s greatest film music concerts. In 2012 Fimucité was selected as the location for the official Universal Pictures 100th Anniversary concert celebrating the studio’s illustrious history of great film music. We don’t cover all 100 years in the concert but our program does span 81 years of Universal Studios. The earliest music you’ll hear is from Bernhard Kaun’s 1931 Frankenstein, which starred Boris Karloff as the monster, and from just four months before the concert took place we have John Powell’s The Lorax.

Almost everything was a world premiere concert performance! The audience in Tenerife got to hear pieces you never thought you would ever hear live! Music from Field of Dreams, Meet Joe Black, Cape Fear, Airport, The Wolfman, Fried Green Tomatoes, An American Tail, Far And Away, The Mummy … classics like To Kill A Mockingbird, Back To The Future Part III, E.T., Conan: The Barbarian, Dracula, Love Actually, Backdraft, On Golden Pond, A Beautiful Mind … all were brilliantly and beautifully performed by the great Diego Navarro conducting the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and Tenerife Film Choir, with an amazing group of soloists. This concert was an epic, and truly historic. We started the show with Brian Tyler’s special centennial version of Jerry Goldsmith’s famous Universal Pictures Fanfare, in an expanded concert arrangement for orchestra and choir! What an opening! Our Dracula is a special concert version, with revisions made by John Williams himself!

To add even more iconic Universal Pictures scores, we’ve included a special Bonus Tracks section featuring Universal classics that have been performed in past Fimucité concerts including Alex North’s Spartacus, John Williams’ Jaws, Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List, John Barry’s Out of Africa and James Newton Howard’s King Kong.

Finishing this CD in the days following the tragic death of James Horner reminded us how important he was to this studio as we featured over twenty minutes of the composer’s music in this concert, including Field of Dreams, An American Tail and A Beautiful Mind.

Two hours of music, with extensive liner notes by producer Robert Townson, President of Film Music for Universal Pictures Mike Knobloch and conductor Diego Navarro, with photos from the films and the concert.

This was a night not to be missed, but it took place in the Canary Islands, so many could not make it. Finally you can hear this acclaimed concert from 2012 that combines the magic of Universal Pictures with the magic of Fimucité.

CDs expect to begin shipping the week of July 27.

I shall buy this, if for nothing else other than the hope that somebody finally captured a good performance of the "Main Title" from Airport.

I shall NOT buy this. NO music from Universal's Gold Age!

Nearly nothing from 1930 to 1970!

NO Frank Skinner! NO Hans Salter! NO sale!

Another dud from the Varese Club! mad

First off, relax as you might get a stroke judging from that reaction. Your beef should be with the Spanish film music festival Fimucité as well as I'm sure they worked together on the program and I guess in order to actually sell seats they had to cut down on the early classic scores and perform more recent and well known works. Diego Navarro is a good conductor and his selection to me looks very appealing indeed.

Also, you are aware you are mad over a concert program from two years ago? Quite the scheme Varese pulled on you, buddy! LOL.

Here are some clips from that concert and none of the comments seem to be having folks complaining about missing Skinner or Salter music:

You seem to have come up with an excellent way to lose money. Maybe a label with that as a goal can released a big Skinner/Salter combo.

Totally agree, they've made great DVDs in the past, I guess that is completely ruled out now. It could've been their first Blu-ray. Perhaps they can do VOD if they think people would pay for it that way?

Naxos/Marco Polo has made a lot more money from their Skinner/Salter re-recordings than Varese will ever make from this current rubbish.
I doubt that including a couple of tracks by such composers in a supposed 100th Anniversary Concert of Universal's film music would result in lost money. It might even have given this release's title a bit more credibility and widened interest in it.

Hahaha

What a crybaby! If Varese releases nothing but duds (as you've stated time and time and time again, ad nauseum) stop reading their threads! Simple A to B logic.

As much as I appreciate this, I wonder why the focus is on re recordings instead of putting out what's already existing? In this case I realize this was an overseas concert and this is for those who couldn't attend. I'll be picking this up in any case.

PFK is visiting and posting on the FSM site, not the Varese site. He is entitled to read what he chooses here and say what he likes. A to B logic says that if Varese wants to use a third party discussion forum purely for their own promotional purposes and without ever contributing anything to discussions here, they are subject to opinions of all kinds being expressed.

This is already existing. The concert was recorded. Varèse has the rights. They're releasing it.

As we are privy to voice our opinion on what has to be the most childish and immature reaction anyone could have to a CD release, that to them did not exist as of couple of hours ago, of a concert that is two years old which he didn't attend anyway and of which the program was directed at fans of contemporary composers in order to assure an audience big enough (locals and those willing to travel to the Canary Islands which is not cheap I've looked into it) and Diego Navarro does his best at getting this festival funded and delivers quality performances as those youtube videos clearly show. So when someone starts shouting that a program, of a concert he didn't attend in the first place, is missing a handful of scores he wanted to be on there, I'm sorry but how else if not to interpret that as beyond ridiculous and quite frankly pathetic?

I'm with you, Francis. Sure, anybody is free to post whatever he wants, but that doesn't mean we aren't free to call those people on their temper tantrums.

Skinner is not coming, not in any great quantities at least. Give that up. It's not happening, not now and not ever. And I'm sorry if that's disappointing because I'd love it if everybody got whatever their hearts desired. But there is very clearly no money to be made there. Lament that all you want, but don't expect that to change. Because realistically, it never will.

These labels are not documentarians, or archivists. They are businesses.

First, anyone notice the Dovekeepers is at 100 copies!?!??! Rarest title ever??
I know, its a typo.

Second, it's the hyperbole. Varese announces a limited/club set, we start expecting all these
magnificent grail type albums. We're just setting up for disappointment.
This is why I wish FSM was still a print mag - they would just casually toss out the upcoming label
releases, and we'd all just say "oh, Fimucite 6, sounds cool!", and that was that. Now we have countdowns and magic dates, and all this other BS.
I know, it's a different world now, labels have to be all mission impossible & secretive.

Just stop expecting obscure Frank Skinner titles, you'll live happier, and if they hit, great....

Why assume it's a typo? Maybe they just don't expect to move more than that.
