'Far North' by The Red Clay Ramblers-

Their acoustic, traditional, and bluegrass roots totally bring the train sounds.

Esp. the tracks 'Gourd Pt 2', 'Train Through The Big Woods', and 'Run Sister, Run'.

As a side note, the traditional fiddle tune 'Orange Blossom Special' is all about the players' ability to mimic a train'

Inspired by zooba's post about Goldsmith's use of "train rhythms" in The Trouble With Angels (which I've yet to hear but will soon thanks to Intrada), I was wondering what other composers have attempted to mimic the sounds of the locomotive in their scores.

The first one that came to mind was Henry Mancini's Silver Streak:

What other examples can you think of? Please provide samples if possible.

Just recorded a new suite from The Train by Maurice Jarre....now there is the ultimate orchestra recreating train sounds score!

A couple of tracks came to mind:

I think Newman's Skyfall score has some train-related rhythms as well but this earlier piece certainly has clearer inspiration. It's also my favourite track of the whole score.

Luckily someone posted more cues from this rare score to youtube besides the wonderful opening track featuring Edda dell'Orso. Another Nicolai score seriously needing a re-release.
