Lakeshore will release soundtrack album on August 21st.
So far it is unclear if it will be songs only, score only or combination of both. Hopefully no more fuck ups of Infinitely Polar Bear proportions...

In the meantime, here is the trailer:

Danny scored this movie with three instruments apparently.

"The movie tells the true story of Infinite Jest author David Foster Wallace, who committed suicide in 2008 during a book tour at the start of his fame and his rivalry with Rolling Stone reporter David Lipsky, who accompanied Wallace on the tour."

What?! Wallace published Infinite Jest and went the book tour in question in 1996! He did commit suicide in 2008, but it wasn't on a book tour, and it certainly wasn't at the start of his fame. Whoever runs Film Music Reporter really needs to start fact checking.

I assume one of them is an acoustic guitar?

Here are samples.

Roughly 22 minutes of the music on the album is by Danny.

To clarify: the CD ships with a gold sticker on its wrap that says "LIMITED EDITION CD - LIMITED TO 1000 COPES!"

I couldn't find any mention of this anywhere other than on the wrap itself.

Weird. Guess I'll order it now. Don't want to find it sold out and going for a crazy price down the line.

Soft, dreamy and contemplative.
This is a side of Elfman I really love.
Much like RESTLESS and PROMISED LAND, I can listen to this style of music and never get bored with it.
Instrument-wise, I detected guitar, piano/keyboard and things like celeste/harmonium/chimes.

It must be said the songs - by Felt, R.E.M, Tracy Ullman, Fun Boy 3, Brian Eno and Tindersticks - really help the CD flow and enhance Elfman's contributions (well, to me they do).
Lovely stuff.

I like the score (like you, I adore Elfman in this mode), but I didn't care for the songs at all -- except the Eno track (which I already had on the THE LOVELY BONES album). So I edited them out, and now it flows much more nicely.
