I have the limited pressing Dragonslayer, it is a gold disc. It has lovely art work, limited notes, but it is actually a very good disc though it is not complete. I will never let it go.

And I have SC Krull, and there are more expansive releases, that I do not have, this disc plays quite satisfactorily, though the art and the notes are very brief.

I have the audiophile 2-LP set of "Dragonslayer" (alongside the CD) and I guess I'll be buried with it...!
(OK, probably not but you get my point!)

Ah, those labels bring back good memories! So many favorites among their releases - Best Years, Peyton Place, Blue Lagoon, Kentuckian, Yor, Anastasia, Sophie's Choice, Kane & Ambersons, A Town Like Alice...
Yes, we owe you big time, JSL!

I asked Lasher about those two albums. He said he was keen to license the master tape recordings but no label that he had contacted had expressed any interest. He was not in a financial position to re-release them himself.

I wonder if they could be released more economically as CDRs, to be made on demand. That way there's no over-sized factory pressing order, and no inventory to maintain except for a supply of printed inserts. The initial investment would be smaller.

I was just window shopping on iTunes to see what John Lasher titles are still available, and someone is selling THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES misrepresented as the original soundtrack (it's got a green cover and screams "Digitally Remastered" in huge type). The label is Bacci Bros. Records. I wonder what the deal is with that. Did they buy it from Lasher and not know the difference between OST and re-recording?

Anyway, the Label X remaster of BEST YEARS from 2000 is also there, for $2 less. That would be the one to buy.

The Fred Steiner KING KONG and both volumes of STAR TREK are on iTunes.

There's a ton of Rozsa but I couldn't find TIME AFTER TIME. That's unfortunate. It deserves to stay available.

I have many of the Lasher recordings, including both the 45 rpm lps and cds of Body Heat and Dragonslayer. Also, the wonderful Best Years of Our Lives, The Kentuckian, the other Herrmanns, Waxmans, and Time After Time.

I've found eBay images of the Label X STAR TREK albums on vinyl, dated 1985 and obviously released concurrently with the CDs. I'm glad I encountered the CDs when I went shopping back then, which saved me the double dips. But this indicates that the catalog above is not entirely comprehensive; Bob didn't find any Label X LPs.

Dragonslayer is a 2 lp set in a box. Body Heat is of course a single disc. The odd thing about these recordings is that they are 45 rpm. Like the cds they are numbered.

I thought that was a typo in your first post. You mean LP-sized records were 45 instead of 33 rpm? I've never heard of that.

Do not adjust your tv set. That is not a typo. At the time the Label X editions were touted as audiophile and the 45 rpm was supposedly to enhance sound. Perhaps some sound expert who reads this can shed some light as to why. I must say that when I received my copies from Nostalgiaphon (?) in Ohio, I think it was, I thought the sound was very good (though the Body Heat mix didn't sound like the movie), but not spectacular.

I've had a few of those, but I only have one now, Label X - The Eagle Has Landed / The Four Musketeers / Voyage of the Damned. I only listen to The Four Musketeers suite, it's a firm favourite & I still play it a lot.

That me in a past life, a name change & extensive plastic surgery & I've gone from CinemaScope to Rameau & I'm still loving The Four Musketeers on Label X, it's only about 25 minutes long, but I still listen to it regularly when lots of 70+ minute CDs sit on the shelf un-played...& it sounds great (I think it's the original recording, but I'm not sure) smile

I love the 4 Musketeers! One of my favorite Schifrins.
