I'd like some suggestions on scores from modern versions of some of the familiar tales in the Historical Epic, Biblical, Sword & Sandals and Myths & Legends genres.

I realise that probably covers quite a broad scope, and I've got a fair few of the well-known Golden and Silver Age classics from the likes of Rozsa, Waxman, Newman, North, Herrmann, Bernstein, Goldsmith. However, I seem to periodically discover a new title that makes me think, "Hmmm, I didn't realise they'd done a TV version of that". Stuff that's specially-made for Cable, for example.

I usually find these genres offer up a good score, so I'd like some more suggestions that I can investigate. I'm not after the big blockbuster films or TV series (such as "Troy", "Robin Hood", "Game Of Thrones"), as they are generally well known and I'm more than likely aware of them. It's the lower-tier productions that I'd like suggestions from, be it from movie remakes or TV movies/mini-series. These may be titles which aren't discussed very much, or are less popular or obscure.

When I do find something, quite often I've stumbled upon it purely by chance, usually when reading up on something else and I spot maybe one suggestion which catches my eye. For example, a recent thread of mine about gritty westerns offered up Randy Miller's "Yellow Rock", which then lead me on to discover his "Spartacus" score, which I'd never heard of (nor the TV movie). Similarly, my Muscular Fighting Warrior Battle Epic thread (lol) made me aware of Carlo Siliotto's "Julius Caesar". And a general Horror search took me to Simon Boswell's "Lord Of Illusions" which mentioned his "Jason And The Argonauts" TV movie score, again something I wasn't aware existed. A couple of really recent titles I only found by browsing the MovieScore Media website.

As a guide, here's a list of CDs I've got, which contains a few scores by well-known composers, but also some remakes and TV movies/mini-series by some of the lesser-discussed composers on here:

-- Merlin (1998) - Trevor Jones
-- Cleopatra (1999) - Trevor Jones
-- Jason And The Argonauts (2000) - Simon Boswell
-- The Mists Of Avalon (2001) - Lee Holdridge
-- Quo Vadis (2001) - Jan A.P. Kaczmarek
-- Julius Caesar (2002) - Carlo Siliotto
-- Spartacus (2004) - Randy Miller
-- The Ten Commandments (2006) - Randy Edelman
-- Spartacus (2010-13) - Joseph LoDuca
-- Camelot (2011) - Mychael Danna
-- The Bible (2013) - Hans Zimmer
-- Atlantis: The Last Days Of Kaptara (2013) - Peter Bateman
-- Hercules (2014) - Fernando Velazquez
-- Pompeii (2014) - Clinton Shorter
-- Coliseum: Games Of Rome (2014) - Marc Timon Barcelo

Can you help me build up a list of some more titles from, say, the last 25 years, which may come from some Film/TV productions that I might not be familiar with.

It's probably also worth considering that what might be obscure to me in the U.K. (something buried on a satellite channel) may not necessarily be obscure to cable viewers in America, for example.

There's a number of them from the 1990's onward in Morricone's credits at IMDb.

You might be interested in Anne Dudley's 2006 Tristan & Isolde

... and Pathfinder (2007) by Jonathan Elias.

I'm curious, The Thing, why you have not much interest (or none) in the Italian peplum soundtracks (from about 1958/'59 through 1964/'65)?
You've already got some Rozsa, Herrmann, etc. in this category and the (pre-Morricone) peplum genre typically has greater emphasis on outlandish aspects - more mythological & more fantastical - than the Hollywood historical/biblical epics.

Don't forget that Leonard Rosenman's The Bible ('93/'94?) was issued onto CD.

I had a look into that genre recently, for the same reason as what this thread is about. I read through some previous threads, and it seemed like quite a vast genre to investigate.

Some of the primary recommended titles mentioned in those threads didn't seem readily available (OOP due to small print runs). I am only really interested in great sound quality for Big Historical Epics, just because I'd find it harder listening to that type of score in varying archival quality (wherever possible I've got re-recordings of the golden age scores). Mono recordings just don't provide me with the same impact for the grandeur they are trying to portray.

Also, I did find some of the compositional styles a bit old-fashioned to my tastes. Same with golden age scores, I find some composers' styles quite dated and a chore to listen to (e.g. Tiomkin), whilst others still sound fresh to me (e.g. Rozsa).

In short, various obstacles made me lose interest in pursuing Peplum scores any further.

Plus, I really enjoy the modern stuff, so have no problem wanting more of them, even though I only seem to discover a new one more sporadically. There's already been a couple mentioned for me to check out.

In absolutely horrendous sound quality. That one needs a proper remastering if that's possible.

Maybe the LoDuca Librarian scores released by LLL some years ago - they seem a kind of mix of Indiana Jones and Sword & Myths. Out of print but not too pricely found.

Some of these may be too obvious or mainstream for you, but thought I'd start by firing some off anyways:

The Secret of Moonacre - Christian Henson (2009)
Hawk - Stuart Hancock (2011)
The Last Legion - Patrick Doyle (2007)
The Nativity Story - Mychael Danna (2006)
Agora - Dario Marianelli (2009)
Troy - Gabriel Yared (can I mention this one?!)
The Gospel of John - Jeff Danna (2003) <<< One of my favourites!
Children of Dune - Brian Tyler (2003) <<< Super obvious, but just had to throw this one in.
