I've been listening to this new 20-track version quite a bit lately, and I must say, IMO, it's a great improvement over the old 16-song version. Better sound, better feel for the flow of the movie. (Well, with the possible exception of "Once In A While", which gives more of the flow of the stage play.) And as mentioned above, too bad the vocal on "Sword of Damocles" is so noticably different (same performer, but a different vocal take, I think) than the one used in the final film. Very minor quibble, though. Also re-watched the film yesterday. I hadn't seen it in quite some time. What fun!

What were the sources for the stereo versions of “Sword of Damocles” and “Planet Shmanet, Janet” made for the 5.1 remix of the film?

What were the sources for the stereo versions of “Sword of Damocles” and “Planet Shmanet, Janet” made for the 5.1 remix of the film? That's a good question, as they were clearly made from a multi-track source. (In other words, not just the mono mix for the film version of "Sword of Damocles" being fiddled with to sound more "stereo-like".) So why wasn't that version used on the "Absolute Pleasures" disc? And why was the spoken middle section of the song "Planet, Schmanet, Janet" left off the album, when the soundtrack has always included the spoken parts for other tracks ("Sweet Transvestite", "Dammit, Janet", etc.) when they were important to the lyrics of the song? (They were even considered part of the song "Planet, Schmanet, Janet" on the Original Roxy Cast recording and included on that album.)
