I'm pretty sure there has never been an official soundtrack release for the original 1968 Love Bug soundtrack but does anyone know why?
It was one of the most successful films of 1968 and has been a steady burner for years. The soundtrack was very much of its time.
I do have the two disc special edition DVD which came out in the USA in 2004 which has an extra of a Herbie Day at Disneyland in 1968 which has most of the soundtrack playing over.
But even on Disney compilation albums there has still never been the theme music.
I wouldn't mind a release for these movie scores either, especially the first one. The scores to the sequels weren't bad either (the one with Lindays Lohan being an exception) but on the other hand even the (sort of-) TV-remake from the 90's had a fun enjoyable score imho (lacking the main theme, though).
I would like a release of this along with Robert Brunner's scores for the Dexter Riley comedies. Come on, Intrada, give some love to the great Disney comedy scores of the 60s & 70s!
Sounds like they're the two audio tracks found on one or two of the extra features on the 2 DVD set that was released years ago. I ripped the same two tracks myself when I got it. I didn't give them both a full listen, but sounds like the short youtube track you posted is one of the two audio tracks and the longer one is that same one also joined with the End Title (which is the other of the two audio tracks from the DVD).

Hi tranders65: so these are ISO tracks from the DVD?
It seems to me that not too long back I found a fun remix of "The Love Bug" theme on the soundcloud website, done by Skeewiff. I just now tried to search for it, but was unable to find it.
I did find this interesting article, however, on the jalopnik website of all places:
An article by Jason Torchinsky that suggests "The Love Bug" theme may have been "stolen" from John Barry, a piece he wrote for the 1964 film "Zulu" called "High Grass." The linked article has youtube videos of both songs, and they do seem rather similar! Perhaps something to listen to while we wait for a "Love Bug" soundtrack to be released. Which I would snap up in an instant.
