I wish more composers would do something like this. Now we need to know where in the film that goes and have our resident member who re-instates tossed scores, do his wizardry.

I love Rupert Gregson-Williams work on this movie! The new Debney track wasn't my cup of tea...too "heroic", and a little bit cheesy Yeah the cue's definitely good itself, but it seems to get the spirit of the movie totally wrong. I can easily imagine Gibson freaking out...

I kind of doubt that. Unless he got free reign and just did what ever he wanted. a composer typically meets with the director, spots it, gets the thoughts on what this and that should be (what is trying to be conveyed), often demos, most often temp tracks, etc. I think it's more likely he got what he wanted, but the studio wasn't worried about the film and so Mel did what they wanted (his career was still rebounding back in 2016). That's my guess.
