I used my computer at the library recently, using their wifi. I went home, turned on my computer again, and after logging in, the ENTIRE screen turned into a huge reminder that Windows 10 is free until July 29 (Yeah, right. Nothing's ever free, folks.) What clods.
You can bet your buttons I'm not going back on wifi until WELL after July 29 now.
The culprit is actually some *update* labeled "KB3173040" that they rolled out the other week. Uninstall that update and the full-screen ad will go away. Also make sure your system is not downloading and installing updates on its own
I upgraded. It was slow but initially no problems. However, 2 weeks later, I am unable to scan with my Cannon printer. I can print normally, but NO SCANS. This was not a problem in the beginning. What happened?
Yeah, I moved to Win 10 last year and my printer prints, but won't scan, even though I've updated all software and drivers. And the built in Windows scan utility doesn't work either. Eh, I've only needed it once or twice and have been able to work around it.
I have it, and it's FREE because it's defaulted to share everything thing with Microsoft. I went through this checklist once I bought my New Windows 10 machine. I turned off EVERY thing that was sharing info and breaching privacy - and guess what, once you do that the applications don't work anymore.
The app to open photos didn't work and I had to edit my registry to add in the Windows 7 Picture Viewer, and a few other things.

This is also a recommended update so I have already gotten used to disabling those by default. If you click on each update it will tell you what it does.
I'm sticking to Windows 7 on my home desktop until I have to start out fresh. It isn't worth it on my current setup. My laptop is running Windows 10 just fine because it came with 8.1 and the hardware is all new. I expect I can get another year maybe two out of my home desktop before I have to go and buy a new processor and motherboard. At that time it would make sense to upgrade everything to Windows 10 because I would have a 64 bit processor and everything.
My current desktop is 8 years old and in that time I have replaced the main and secondary hard drives, power supply, ram, and video card. So as long as the motherboard is still kicking I'm going to keep using it without upgrading.
